On August 8, the construction of the second domestic large cruise ship started at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, marking that my country’s shipbuilding industry has initially mastered the key core technologies for the design and construction of large cruise ships, and has since entered the era of “two-wheel” construction.

Tian Yulong, a member of the party group and chief engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, introduced that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is working with relevant departments to study and formulate relevant policy documents to speed up the development of cruise equipment and industry, aiming to further give play to the advantages of my country’s large shipbuilding country and huge market. The implementation of the project is the starting point to promote the improvement of the technical capabilities of the industry, accelerate the pace of digital transformation, meet the popular development of cruise consumption, promote industrial chain cooperation, drive the formation of the cruise equipment industry system, and cultivate and improve the industrial ecology.
Tian Yulong said that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will continue to support China State Shipbuilding Corporation in building a world-class shipbuilding group and promote the smooth construction of large domestic cruise ships. It is understood that the construction of my country’s first large cruise ship started on October 18, 2019, and the overall progress has exceeded 85%. It is planned to be delivered in 2023. The ship is 135,500 gross tons, 323.6 meters in total length, 37.2 meters in width, 8.55 meters in maximum draft, 22.6 knots in maximum speed and 2,125 passenger cabins. The second domestic large cruise ship is about 142,000 gross tons, with a total length of 341.0 meters, a width of 37.2 meters, a maximum draft of 8.4 meters, a maximum speed of 22.7 knots, and 2,144 passenger cabins.
