On October 11, the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center held the signing and groundbreaking ceremony of the Phase II project of the Huangpu Campus of the hospital.

Yu Minbin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Sun Yat-sen University, said in his speech that he hoped that Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Prevention and Treatment Center would use the South China State Key Laboratory of Oncology, the National New Drug Clinical Trial Research Center, the National Cancer Regional Medical Center and other platforms , accelerate the breakthrough of a batch of key core technologies in the field of tumor prevention and treatment such as drugs, medical devices, and medical equipment, continuously improve the quality of personnel training, and better serve tumor patients.

Xu Ruihua, Director and Dean of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, introduced that the Huangpu Campus of the hospital was officially opened on March 16, 2021. The total construction area of ​​the first phase of the project is about 105,000 square meters. There are 650 open beds. As of the second quarter of 2022, the total number of outpatient visits in the Huangpu Branch of the hospital reached 280,000, the total number of discharges exceeded 60,000, the total number of operations was about 10,000, the number of radiotherapy was about 70,000, and the number of chemotherapy was about 110,000.

According to reports, the Huangpu Campus of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Prevention and Treatment Center has been in operation for more than a year, focusing on the goal of “combining extended and localized management, homogeneous service, and differentiated development” Consolidating and expanding the advantageous specialties of oncology surgery, internal medicine, and radiotherapy in accordance with the principles, filling in many technical gaps such as allogeneic bone marrow transplantation in the hospital. The hospital also vigorously develops comfortable diagnosis and treatment, promotes new daytime operations and new operation models for outpatient diagnosis and treatment, and builds a modern medical system that extends out-of-hospital family care management and the organic linkage of “medical, nursing, and patient”.

According to the plan, after the completion of the second phase of the Huangpu Campus, the scale of the hospital will increase by 130,000 square meters, and the volume of medical services in the Huangpu Campus will increase to 1,200 beds. Guangzhou Huangpu District Party Committee and District Government will invest 500 million yuan to support the construction of the project. The Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center is responsible for basic construction, equipment configuration, personnel training, medical treatment, scientific research transformation, and service guarantees.

“The construction of the hospital is a systematic project, and we hope that the second phase of the project can be completed and put into use within three years.” Xu Ruihua said that in addition to increasing the number of beds, the second phase of the hospital’s Huangpu Campus project It will be committed to promoting clinical research innovation and the transformation of scientific research results. In the treatment of tumor diseases, the hospital will continue to focus on the diagnosis and treatment of critical and difficult diseases, and provide patients with personalized and precise treatment plans through multidisciplinary cooperation.

At the event, Liu Shi, deputy director of the Guangzhou Development Zone Management Committee, and Sun Ying, deputy director of the Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center, signed a strategic cooperation agreement as representatives.
