Beware of “health rumors”

Disinfection residues of masks can cause cancer. Shake before use. Anti-Helicobacter pylori toothpaste. “health knowledge”, and unswervingly believe in these “health knowledge”.

Nowadays, people pay more and more attention to health preservation, and with it, all kinds of pseudoscience are flying all over the sky, which can be roughly divided into the following three categories: one is the “hiking” high-tech collection of “IQ tax”; two It is to create “new terms” to enhance confusion; the third is to advocate “myth of raw materials” to promote “superstitious consumption”. All kinds of pseudoscience not only harm the vital interests of some consumers, but also adversely affect the healthy development of the industry in the long run. While making consumers pay the “IQ tax”, it also brings great harm to the industry. You know, once consumers are fooled, they will always be skeptical, and as a result, new products with real value will be affected.

Turning on the phone, we will find that there are many “health accounts” on the official account, short video and other graphic and video platforms. A variety of articles and videos are endlessly introducing health knowledge of one kind or another, using some seemingly professional and advanced scientific vocabulary, and seemingly “high-level” pseudo-scientific concepts to concoct “health rumors”. In an era of increasingly strong public health demands, these articles and videos are likely to become popular in a very short period of time. It is not uncommon to get 100,000+, hundreds of thousands+, or even 1 million+ thing. Ordinary people, because of their unprofessionalism, have a hard time distinguishing the authenticity from the fake.

The author believes that in order to eliminate these “health rumors”, we must first build a national authoritative scientific communication platform to remind the public of some uncertain information in a timely manner. Organize industry experts to remove falsehoods and preserve the truth of the “health rumors” widely published on the Internet, remove the false skins layer by layer, enhance the public’s ability to identify technology products, and prevent the public from being deceived. Secondly, each platform should strengthen supervision and be more cautious about very professional knowledge. For self-media accounts registered in the name of “health” and “medical”, the real-name system needs to be implemented, and only professionals, such as doctors, scientists, etc., can publish such information. Thirdly, we must improve the scientific literacy of the public, and increase our immunity in the face of “health rumors”. For articles and videos of unknown origin, we must not listen to partial beliefs, hear hearsay, or repost them casually. If you are in doubt, you should consult a professional. (□ Zhuang Tingting)
