21-year-old girl suffers from huge pancreatic tumor, doctors spend 12 hours surgery to remove the tumor

Recently, the Pancreatic Surgery Department of Qilu Hospital performed an extremely difficult operation for a young female patient to successfully remove a huge pancreatic tumor, saving the life of a 21-year-old girl.

A 21-year-old patient underwent surgery 10 years ago for a solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas. In the past six months, the patient gradually developed abdominal distension and anorexia. The examination found that it was caused by the recurrence of the tumor 10 years ago. The tumor is not only huge, but also invades the superior mesenteric artery and vein, which is responsible for the blood supply of the intestine. Many hospitals in China believe that the surgical risk is extremely high or even impossible to remove.

Faced with such a difficult and high-risk operation, facing the ardent hope of the patient’s family, especially facing such a young patient who has just graduated from college and is heading for a new life, the Pancreatic Surgery Department of Qilu Hospital, as a national The member unit of the Pancreatic Cancer Expert Committee of the Cancer Center has bravely assumed this social responsibility.

Director of Pancreatic Surgery Wang Lei, Deputy Chief Physician Li Feng, Deputy Chief Physician Xu Jianwei, Chief Physician Liu Han, Deputy Director Zhu Min of the Department of Organ Transplantation, and Chief Physician Changcun of the Cardiac Surgery Department worked together in anesthesiology department. With the support of Ma Xianjun, deputy chief physician and deputy director of the blood transfusion department, the first high-risk operation in the hospital was successfully performed.

In essence, a solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas is a low-grade pancreatic tumor that, once surgically removed, has the potential for long-term survival. After years of development of the disease, the tumor has invaded the entire superior mesenteric artery and vein, especially the root of the superior mesenteric vein, and there is almost no possibility of surgical resection. However, with the understanding of the characteristics of such pancreatic tumors and rich surgical experience of the pancreatic surgery team of Qilu Hospital, it is believed that there is hope for the patient to have the tumor removed.

After careful preoperative preparation, a difficult pancreatic surgery was performed. The pancreatic surgery team first successfully separated the superior mesenteric artery and the distal vein, removed the trunk of the superior mesenteric vein wrapped by the tumor, and established the three branches of the superior mesenteric vein through the reconstruction of multiple artificial blood vessels. Avoid small intestinal venous return obstruction, edema, and necrosis. During the operation, the organs affected by the tumor, such as the pancreatic head, duodenum, and right colon, were also removed to ensure the long-term survival of the patient.

The entire operation lasted 12 hours, and the patient returned to normal on the first day after the excision. The patient recovered smoothly without complications such as pancreatic fistula and massive ascites, and was discharged from the hospital 9 days later.

The vascular reconstruction of this patient is an extremely difficult operation, and the interference to the human body will increase the uncertainty of postoperative recovery. The surgical team once again helped the patient go through the perioperative period smoothly and finally recovered.

It is very difficult to resection such a huge pancreatic tumor with extensive involvement of key blood vessels. After years of clinical practice on pancreatic tumors, the Pancreatic Surgery Department of Qilu Hospital is not only rich in experience in the field of minimally invasive pancreas, but also in the difficult field of complex pancreatic tumors. A lot of experience has been accumulated in the operation, and the treatment of pancreatic tumors has reached a new height.
