Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, May 16 (Reporters Song Yumeng, Lin Miaomiao, Ma Xiaodong) It has been more than 20 days since the outbreak of the epidemic in Beijing on April 22. During this period, Panjiayuan Street, Chaoyang District, Beijing Many places have been upgraded to medium and high risk areas. In the “surrounding” of these closed control areas, there is a nationally renowned cancer hospital.

There are many patients in the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences who seek medical treatment for a long time, and at least half of the patients usually come from other places. Many of them need to undergo various treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy according to their conditions. The order and rhythm of treatment cannot be easily disrupted. The community near the hospital has become a temporary residence for patients and their families in Beijing.
Chen Bing (pseudonym) is one of them. She is from Heilongjiang Province. She suffered from advanced gastric cancer and her condition was more complicated. She became a patient of Tian Yantao, director of the Pancreatic and Gastric Surgery Ward, a few months ago. Like many patients who come to Beijing to see a doctor, she and her wife Lao Jin live in Hongshan Homestead, which is close to the Cancer Hospital.
On April 27, Hongshan Homeland was announced to be upgraded to a medium-risk area. “Oops, can I still go out of the community to the hospital to see a doctor?” This made Chen Bing feel a little drummed, because she had already made an appointment for Tian Yantao’s morning clinic the next day. She had just completed three cycles of chemotherapy and was eager to find a doctor to assess whether she could operate early.
Lao Jin contacted the community and explained the need to go to the cancer hospital for medical treatment. Without a word, the community staff helped Lao Jin and Chen Bing apply for passes.
In the early morning of April 28, Lao Jin accompanied Chen Bing to the hospital early. There was no problem in seeing a doctor, but a stone fell to the ground in Chen Bing’s heart.
In order to ensure the maximum protection of patients to seek medical treatment while doing a good job in epidemic prevention and control, for patients from medium and high-risk areas, the hospital has made appropriate adjustments to the outpatient process. The patient explained the condition, which was also vividly called “the grove clinic” by some doctors and patients.
“It was raining lightly that morning, and a total of four or five out-of-town patients who lived in medium and high-risk areas asked Director Tian to see a doctor.” Lao Jin recalled that Director Tian first read our imaging materials in the clinic , and then patiently explained the condition to us one by one outdoors.
Chen Bing had previously undergone three cycles of preoperative chemotherapy, and originally planned to undergo surgery around May 1, but at present, from the results of imaging and other examinations, the effect of chemotherapy has not yet reached expectations, and the surgical conditions are not yet mature. . Tian Yantao suggested that Chen Bing should undergo another cycle of chemotherapy to create better conditions for the operation.
“After listening to Director Tian’s suggestion, my wife and I also understand very well. Now we have been hospitalized in the hospital of the medical union to prepare for chemotherapy. After a new cycle of chemotherapy, I will go to the hospital again.
Bring your wife to see Director Tian to evaluate whether surgery is possible.” Lao Jin said.
“Many patients, especially those who have just been diagnosed with a tumor, have heard that they would like to undergo surgery immediately after they have cancer. It is understandable to feel this way. But in fact, surgery needs to meet certain conditions to achieve the desired effect. Therefore, some patients need to undergo chemotherapy first to control the tumor size before surgery.” Tian Yantao introduced.
The reporter learned that during the epidemic, many medical staff were unable to go to work because their residential areas were closed and controlled, and the ward also had requirements for the density of inpatients. Due to limited manpower and tight beds, the operation schedule was longer than usual. On the one hand, the hospital is doing its best to ensure that the treatment that needs to be carried out within a time limit can be carried out in an orderly manner, and at the same time, it has made corresponding adjustments to the comprehensive treatment plan for some patients, and strives to minimize the impact of the epidemic. Since many places around the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences have been upgraded to medium and high-risk areas, some medical staff on duty have not returned home for a long time in order to prevent them from encountering lockdowns after returning home. In the “surrounding” of the closed control area, the hospital made every effort to ensure non-stop consultation through forms such as “grove outpatient clinics” according to local conditions.

In addition to outpatient clinics for patients from medium and high-risk areas, the Internet Hospital of Cancer Hospital has opened 16 departments. Online follow-up visits, prescription renewals, payment, etc. can be realized on the APP. At present, the appointment number for Internet diagnosis and treatment is for patients who have been treated in the outpatient department of the hospital within 6 months, or patients who have been hospitalized in the undergraduate room within 2 years. For newly diagnosed patients, you should still come to the hospital for offline treatment, or go to the hospital’s medical consortium units in various places first.
The reporter learned that supermarkets, hospitals and other places necessary for basic life in the temporary control area of Chaoyang District, Beijing are operating normally, and relevant epidemic prevention regulations such as code scanning, temperature measurement, and wearing masks are strictly implemented, and crowd gatherings are strictly prohibited. . In addition, for people who need medical treatment such as tumors, dialysis, and pregnant women in the closed control area, Beijing provides medical service guarantees for those at risk of the epidemic in accordance with the principles of knowing the basics, unblocking channels, and responding quickly.
