According to statistics, in Hainan Province, at least 500 people need to donate blood every day to basically meet the clinical blood demand. Blood can be regenerated, but life cannot be repeated. With the increasing demand for medical blood, it is urgent for the public to actively participate in voluntary blood donation to ensure an adequate blood supply.

Is blood donation harmful to health?

Feng Xueguan, director of the blood transfusion department of Hainan Cancer Hospital, introduced that healthy, age-appropriate blood donors donate 200-400 ml of blood at a time, which only accounts for 5%-10% of the body’s blood volume and will not cause harm to the body. 80% of the blood in the human body circulates in the heart and blood vessels, and the remaining 20% (about 800 ml) of blood is stored in the liver, skin and other organs. After blood donation, the reserve blood will be quickly released into the blood circulation without reducing the body circulation blood volume.

Blood is regenerable. Donation of blood stimulates hematopoietic function. Generally, about a week or so, the lost blood cells will be replenished. In addition, the state has strict management of blood collection institutions, the collection environment and equipment are professional, and the collection personnel have professional qualifications. Therefore, it is very safe to collect blood in a regular blood donation center and will not transmit any diseases.
