Why was the butt spanked so often as a child?
At present, it has been clearly concluded that the femoral vastus lateralis muscle of the infant is well developed at birth, the muscle layer is rich, and the accompanying great vessels and nerves are deep.
The muscles of the gluteus medius and minimus are also thicker, and there are no large neurovascular nearby; the gluteus maximus in children is thinner, and the sciatic nerve is relatively superficial , but when you can walk, the gluteus maximus will gradually develop and thicken.
At the same time, children’s upper arm deltoid muscles are usually small and thin, making them less suitable for needles than the buttocks.

Intramuscular injection for infants under 2 years old, including neonates, should be selected in sequence vasus vastus, gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, and small doses such as vaccination The deltoid muscle of the upper arm can be used at the time of injection, and it can be injected into the gluteus maximus after the age of 2.
Why are butt stitches rare these days?
Because you’re older, you can not be limited to butt injections, and many conditions will require different injections. Moreover, 2/3 of the needle for intramuscular injection will pierce into the skin, and the pain is relatively strong.
What’s more, butt needles present a number of safety risks:
