Spanking is probably the childhood nightmare of every post-80s and 90s-born friend, and today’s children may rarely experience such a frightening moment.

Xiao Liang still remembers being coerced and lured by her mother and forced to take off her pants when she was a child. In front of everyone’s eyes, her delicate butt was plunged into by the cold and ruthless needle of the nurse sister, accompanied by It came with great pain, unsatisfactory tears and howls resounding through the consultation room…

But have you noticed that I used to be spanked a lot when I was a child, but why is it so rarely spanked now? Are only children able to fight? Or is the butt needle eliminated and gone? Let’s first understand the difference between different injection methods such as the buttock needle.

Differences between different injection methods

Common injection methods can be mainly divided into these four types: intradermal injection, subcutaneous injection, intramuscular injection, and intravenous injection.

Intramuscular/Intramuscular

Suitable for spanking, COVID-19 vaccine/rabies vaccine/HPV vaccine, botulinum toxin injection, etc. The injection site is upper arm deltoid, buttocks (gluteus maximus/gluteus medius/buttocks) Minor muscle), outer thigh (vasolateralis muscle), the angle of needle insertion is vertical 90°.

● Subcutaneous injection

Suitable for insulin injection, measles vaccination, etc. The injection site is the lower edge of the deltoid muscle of the upper arm, the outer side of the upper arm, the outer side of the thigh, etc. The injection angle is 45°.

● Intravenous

Suitable for hanging needle infusion, blood transfusion, etc. The injection site is the elbow fossa, the back of the hand, the dorsum of the foot, etc., and the injection angle is 25°< /strong>.

● Intradermal

Suitable for inoculation of BCG vaccine, penicillin skin test, anesthesia, injection of water light needle (hand punch), etc. The injection site is the lower volar forearm, the lower edge of the deltoid muscle of the upper arm, etc. The injection angle is 10°-15°.

Why was the butt spanked so often as a child?

At present, it has been clearly concluded that the femoral vastus lateralis muscle of the infant is well developed at birth, the muscle layer is rich, and the accompanying great vessels and nerves are deep.

The muscles of the gluteus medius and minimus are also thicker, and there are no large neurovascular nearby; the gluteus maximus in children is thinner, and the sciatic nerve is relatively superficial , but when you can walk, the gluteus maximus will gradually develop and thicken.

At the same time, children’s upper arm deltoid muscles are usually small and thin, making them less suitable for needles than the buttocks.

So because the buttocks and thighs developed relatively better and the muscles were thicker when I was a child, easy to absorb drugs and not easy to hurt bones and blood vessels and nerves, will be more often in Butt and thigh injections.

Intramuscular injection for infants under 2 years old, including neonates, should be selected in sequence vasus vastus, gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, and small doses such as vaccination The deltoid muscle of the upper arm can be used at the time of injection, and it can be injected into the gluteus maximus after the age of 2.

Why are butt stitches rare these days?

Because you’re older, you can not be limited to butt injections, and many conditions will require different injections. Moreover, 2/3 of the needle for intramuscular injection will pierce into the skin, and the pain is relatively strong.

What’s more, butt needles present a number of safety risks:

For example, when a child is spanked, the pain is unbearable, and he is afraid of being nervous, struggling and crying, which makes the injection difficult, and is prone to pain, redness, and purulence strong> and other local adverse reactions.

Butt needles are also not suitable for overweight or obese patients. The needle can only reach the subcutaneous fat layer, not the subcutaneous fat layer. The gluteus maximus has certain medical risks.

If the depth of intramuscular injection is insufficient, the accumulation of drug solution, repeated intramuscular injections at the same site, etc., may cause Induration of intramuscular injection strong>.

Improper injection can cause sciatic nerve injury, lipogranuloma, infection and even broken needle in severe cases strong> and other unexpected situations.

And the butt needle is not for spanking. When there is induration and skin infection at the injection site, it is not suitable for spanking.

Also, for most people, revealing a private part like the butt is somewhat embarrassing and shy, and not as convenient and quick as an arm needle.

For the above reasons, butt needles are relatively rare at present, but they have not completely disappeared, and it is not only for children. If you like spanking, so do doctors can help you fulfill this wish.
