What to do with the proliferation of fake health science popularization and false information? National Health and Health Commission answers Red Star News

On June 10, the National Health and Health Commission held the sixth press conference of the “Everything for the People’s Health – Our Ten Years” series, introducing the progress and effectiveness of health education work since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. At the meeting, Mi Feng, spokesperson of the National Health Commission and deputy director of the Publicity Department, answered a question from a Red Star reporter about online science popularization.

“In the era of new media, many people make health science popularization content through the Internet and short video platforms, which has attracted a lot of attention. However, some self-media health popularization levels are uneven, including pseudo popular science and false information, which have brought certain harm. How should we deal with this problem? How to better use multiple methods to spread scientifically authoritative health knowledge?”

As for the above-mentioned question of the Red Star News reporter, Mi Feng said that this issue has always attracted much attention. Indeed, there are some false popular sciences, which also require the government to constantly refute rumors and provide scientifically authoritative information.

Mi Feng introduced that, for this purpose, in February 2020, the Office for the Promotion of Healthy China Action established a national health science expert database. More than 1,000 experts from more than 30 fields such as health education, clinical medicine, and public health have become the first members of the expert database; so far, all provinces in the country have established their own provincial-level health science expert database. These are the first batches, which will be continuously improved according to the situation in the future. There are also some update mechanisms. These are the “producers” of health science knowledge.

It is reported that recently, nine departments including the National Health Commission, the Central Propaganda Department, the Central Network Information Office, and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television have issued documents on the release and dissemination mechanism of all-media health science knowledge. The document clarifies the subjects and corresponding responsibilities of the publication, dissemination and supervision of health science knowledge, which is to open up the “communication channel” of health science. With the “production side”, there will be good “communication channels” to provide the people with good health science information.

“Through the construction of the expert database and mechanism, it is to provide the masses with more scientific, authoritative and professional health science knowledge, to create a clear and clear media health science popularization environment, and to unite the media to increase health The frequency of knowledge dissemination and the scope of dissemination can be expanded, so that more and better health knowledge can be delivered to thousands of households.” Mi Feng emphasized.
