What kind of life would a person be without an anus? An inspection made these tragedies avoidable

What would be the dilemma for a person without anus?

According to the latest cancer data released by the World Health Organization: In 2020, the number of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer worldwide will reach 1.93 million, of which about 550,000 patients with colorectal cancer in my country.

And these patients, in order to save their lives, had to be forced to lose their anus, becoming what everyone calls “stoma people”.

Saving lives comes with inconveniences

Due to serious diseases such as tumors in the colorectum, bladder and other parts, the patient not only needs to excise the diseased part, suture the original anus, but also pull out a section of the bowel during treatment. It is then turned over and sutured to the abdominal wall. This is the so-called “stoma”.

Patients need to live with a fecal bag all the time and embark on the road of “stoma people”.

According to statistics, China’s “stoma people” have exceeded 1 million, and more than 100,000 people join the ranks of “stoma people” every year. There are also some young people in their 20s.

Once you become a “stoma person”, not only your life will be affected, but your work and social interaction will also be affected a lot, and even life will be difficult.

For example:

1. Life

“stoma people” will be excluded by others because they carry fecal bags with them and exude a bad smell in their lives. The mind was severely hit.

Not only that, if the patient does not take good care of the stoma, there may be stoma inflammation and pain, and the stoma bag may be damaged and flow out Feces.

2. Work

The “stoma person” cannot control defecation on his own. Improper care may also cause stoma damage, feces outflow, wound purulence, etc., so it will also cause certain damage to the patient’s life. influence.

Many patients had to leave their jobs because of this, and only a few patients could regulate nursing and stick to their jobs.

3. Social

Many “stoma people” have social phobia, because the patient is afraid of being smelled by others, and at the same time, he is also worried that in the process of socializing, the excrement will be exposed. embarrassment.

At the same time, the long-term social inconvenience has made more and more patients choose to refuse social interaction, resulting in obvious inferiority complex, anxiety and worry about daily life, and even depression. .

The high cost of the ostomy bag also hinders the patient’s progress

It is reported that the price of a single ostomy bag is more than 100 yuan, and it needs to be replaced every three days, so the cost of one month needs more than 1,000 yuan, which is a fixed expenditure for patients. It is also a pressure.

In addition, stoma care products such as stoma skin care powder cannot be included in the scope of medical insurance reimbursement, which puts a lot of financial pressure on stoma patients and their families.

An early checkup to avoid “stoma people”

In fact, most people with stoma basically have a history of colorectal cancer, especially sigmoid colon cancer and rectal cancer. Once they develop intermediate and advanced cancer, even if they can save their lives, the patient must not It is also very expensive to not accept the final removal of the anus.

According to statistics, At present, there are nearly 400,000 new colorectal cancer patients in my country every year, and only 10-15% are early stage cancers that can be completely cured. It was found in the middle and late stages.

The tragedies of these stoma people could have been avoided by early detection of bowel cancer. This inspection item is colonoscopy.

If the screening population is targeted at 40-74 years old, about 120 million people in my country need to undergo bowel cancer screening every year, especially colonoscopy, but in fact only 15% of them receive Check.

You must know that most bowel cancers evolve from bowel polyps. It takes about 5-15 years from bowel polyps to bowel cancer. Most colorectal cancers are formed at the age of 55. Later.

And a colonoscopy before the age of 40 can be very good to observe the intestinal health, whether it is benign intestinal polyps, or early intestinal cancer, these are very good management , can be removed in time to prevent continued changes.

Even for stage II and III colorectal cancer, currently through comprehensive treatment, it also has a good prognosis, the 5-year survival rate can reach more than 60-80%.

If early detection is missed and cancer cells undergo distant metastasis, even at the current medical level, the 5-year survival rate is only less than 20%, and the burden of drugs and medical expenses will increase greatly.

Today, the number of stoma patients in my country has exceeded 1 million, and more and more people are beginning to realize this group.

Although with the continuous development of medicine, the treatment effect of colorectal cancer and the level of ostomy appliances are also increasing, which greatly reduces the living burden of people with stoma.

But we still hope that this group will continue to shrink, and everyone in the colonoscopy program can take it seriously.
