Pulmonary nodule is actually an imaging concept, which refers to a mass lesion less than three centimeters in diameter on chest X-ray or CT. It reflects the substantial lesions of the lungs. We all know that the lungs are composed of many alveoli and the middle of the alveoli is empty, which appears black on CT or chest X-ray. However, due to various reasons, the air in the lung bag is replaced by other substances, such as cells, cellulose, moisture and other tangible substances, which will show a white shape on the CT. The higher the density, the stronger the degree of whiteness. Pulmonary nodule is not a disease in itself, it is a collection of manifestations of multiple diseases. Just like the relationship between fish and grass carp, crucian carp, and silver carp, it only tells you that it is a fish, and you do not know its type. Just talking about the nodule itself, it is not clear what the disease is. It can be a fresh infection lesion, or a scar left by the infection, or it may be caused by toxic and harmful substances that damage the lungs, and even the immune function of the body is disordered. Inhalation of PM2 .5 are likely to leave nodules in the lungs. The reason why nodules are frightening is that some nodules are malignant, which is a mass-shaped lesion that gradually evolves from the malignant transformation of bronchial epithelial cells or alveolar epithelial cells. Although most people’s nodules are benign, a small proportion of malignant nodules cause collective anxiety for all patients with nodules, because no doctor can be 100% accurate before surgery.
