Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, June 9 (Xinhua) According to the announcement, monkeypox has been listed as a statutory notifiable infectious disease since the 8th. Five cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in Ghana since May 24.

The British Health and Safety Agency said in a communiqué on the 7th that monkeypox was listed as a reportable infectious disease, which means that all doctors in England will start from the 8th if they find suspected monkeypox. Patients must report to local authorities or local health protection teams; if monkeypox virus is found in laboratory samples, the laboratory must notify the UK Health Security Agency.

In the communiqué, Wendy Sheppard, head of monkeypox outbreaks at the UK Health Security Agency, said that rapid diagnosis and reporting are key to interrupting and containing further spread of monkeypox. The new rule will help “our rapid detection, treatment and control of monkeypox” and facilitate “the rapid collection and analysis of data that will allow us to detect possible outbreaks of the disease and rapidly trace close contacts, while providing vaccines as appropriate. Vaccination to limit further spread”.

The UK Health and Safety Authority said in a bulletin on the 8th that as of the 7th, a total of 321 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported in the UK. Of these, 305 are in England, 11 in Scotland, 2 in Northern Ireland and 3 in Wales. The bureau warned that anyone can become infected with monkeypox, especially those who have been in close contact with someone with symptomatic monkeypox. In addition, people who are gay, bisexual, or who have sex with men are more likely to be infected.

The data updated by the World Health Organization on the 4th showed that as of June 2, monkeypox cases had occurred in 27 non-monkeypox-endemic countries, and a total of 780 laboratory-confirmed cases had been reported. Most reported cases involve but are not limited to men who have sex with men. Currently, the global public health risk level for monkeypox is assessed by WHO as moderate.
