The treatment effect of advanced liver cancer is greatly improved

The liver lesions are 2,166 cubic centimeters, occupying 65% of the space, and few doctors are willing to treat Mr. Wang’s liver cancer. Li Gong, director of the Radiotherapy Department of Tsinghua Chang Gung Hospital in Beijing, formulated a combined treatment plan for him. After more than 7 months of treatment, the patient’s primary liver giant tumor has basically disappeared.

Data show that currently, more than 80% of the patients with liver cancer diagnosed for the first time in my country belong to the advanced stage. Primary liver cancer is one of the most common and malignant tumors.

Academician Dong Jiahong, executive director of Tsinghua Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, said that surgery is still the preferred treatment for liver cancer. Because most patients with liver cancer have liver cirrhosis, or most of them have reached the middle and advanced stage at the time of diagnosis, 20%-30% of patients can get the chance of surgical resection. With the increasing number of treatment methods for liver cancer, precision surgery combined with systemic targeted therapy and immunotherapy, the treatment of advanced liver cancer has entered a new era, and the therapeutic effect has been greatly improved.

In recent years, breakthroughs have been made in the treatment of liver cancer. The commonly used systemic treatment methods are mainly targeted therapy and immunotherapy. From 2017 to 2018, the clinical trials of 4 targeted drugs (regorafenib, lenvatinib, cabozantinib and ramucirumab) have been successful one after another. At present, the first-line drug lenvatinib and the second-line drug regorafenib have been used in the clinical treatment of liver cancer, and the clinical efficacy has been verified. Li Gong introduced that for patients with liver cancer, “active, comprehensive and individualized” treatment is mainly carried out. Because different patients have different conditions and tumor conditions, it is not possible to implement “one size fits all” as in the past. It is necessary to analyze specific problems and individualize treatment of liver cancer.

Liver cancer is preventable, experts say. The prevention of liver cancer is mainly to prevent various susceptibility factors of liver cancer, including the prevention of viral hepatitis (hepatitis B, hepatitis C, etc.), and at the same time to prevent the consumption of moldy food, pay attention to drinking water hygiene, and reduce alcoholism. For people over the age of 35 with hepatitis B virus and/or hepatitis C virus infection, it is recommended to have regular liver cancer examinations.
