Essential medicines refer to medicines that meet basic medical and health needs, have suitable dosage forms, and are reasonably priced, which can guarantee the supply and are fairly accessible to the public. There are many drugs on the market in various countries in the world, many of which can be used to treat the same disease, with different curative effects and different prices. Therefore, under the circumstance of limited resources, the country’s public medical security system needs to properly select medicines, compile a list of essential medicines, and give priority to strengthening its supply guarantee system to meet the priority needs of most people’s health care.
In 2009, my country officially launched the construction of the national essential drug system. After adjustment and improvement, the 2018 version of the National Essential Drugs List was officially implemented on November 1, 2018, and the number of drugs increased from 520 in the 2012 version to 685. The new version of the catalog not only increases the number of varieties, but also optimizes the drug structure, highlighting the basic drug needs of common diseases, chronic diseases, diseases with heavy burden and serious harm, and public health.
Changsha No. 3 Hospital always attaches great importance to the effective promotion of the national essential drug system, effectively protects the rights and interests of the people in basic drug use, and reduces the burden of medical expenses. Under the premise of ensuring clinical needs, actively implement the requirement of “prioritizing the use of essential medicines”, consciously maintain the dominant position of essential medicines, and regularly monitor the allocation and use of essential medicines in the hospital.
In addition, the hospital has successively launched pre-review software, inpatient pharmacy monitoring system and outpatient drug therapy management (MTM) system to ensure the rationality and safety of drug use in multiple dimensions; , establish drug treatment management files for patients, sort out patients’ current medication, carry out prescription streamlining, drug reformation, and personalized medication education to help patients use drugs safely and rationally.
