The opening of the three-dimensional after-installation treatment room in Hubei Cancer Hospital will benefit more cervical cancer patients

Changjiang Daily Wuhan Client May 18 (Correspondent Wang Fang Fan Ni) Recently, a 62-year-old cervical cancer patient, Ms. Yang, received her first 3D brachytherapy at Hubei Cancer Hospital. She has also become the first patient to be treated since the hospital’s three-dimensional after-installation treatment room was officially opened.

Delineate the target area under CT positioning to formulate a radiotherapy plan.

It is reported that radiotherapy, as the main treatment for cervical cancer, is suitable for patients with advanced stage and those who cannot tolerate surgery. Radical radiotherapy for cervical cancer includes pelvic external beam radiotherapy and afterload radiotherapy, both of which are indispensable. Afterloading radiotherapy refers to placing the sealed radioactive source directly into the natural lumen of the human body (such as the uterine cavity, vagina), or directly into the tumor tissue, releasing high-dose radiation in the tumor target area to kill the tumor, thereby improving the tumor growth rate. the local control rate.

Preparation for 3D afterloading radiotherapy.

The Department of Gynecology and Oncology of Hubei Cancer Hospital has been conducting radical radiotherapy for cervical cancer, which combines external radiotherapy and post-load radiotherapy since 1978. So far, it has relieved the pain of tens of thousands of cervical cancer patients. About 60%-70% of patients are cured.

In 2021, in response to the call of Hubei Province’s “323” campaign to tackle cancer prevention and control and to improve the cure rate of cervical cancer, Hubei Cancer Hospital has introduced an internationally advanced three-dimensional after-loading treatment equipment, which is here On the basis, a three-dimensional after-loading treatment room was built. After full preparations in the early stage, the 3D after-installation treatment room entered trial operation at the end of March this year, and was officially opened in mid-May on the basis of many cooperation exercises.

Three-dimensional afterload radiotherapy.

Fang Shengquan, director of the third ward of the Department of Gynecology and Oncology (Gynecological Oncology Radiotherapy Ward) of Hubei Cancer Hospital, introduced that three-dimensional afterloading radiotherapy is a precise radiotherapy method, and it is the next step after image-guided intensity-modulated radiotherapy and other precise radiotherapy technologies. After that, another advanced technology that was extremely challenging for the radiation therapy team, and also added a powerful tool for the precise radiation therapy of gynecological tumor patients. Compared with traditional two-dimensional afterloading radiotherapy, the advantage of three-dimensional afterloading radiotherapy is that CT images of patients can be collected through the special CT for radiotherapy, which helps doctors to delineate the target area and normal organs more accurately, and makes the treatment more accurate. On the one hand, it can increase the dose of radiotherapy in the tumor target area and improve the therapeutic effect, on the other hand, it can limit the dose of surrounding normal tissues, improve the safety of treatment, reduce toxic and side effects such as radiation cystitis and proctitis, and improve the quality of life of patients.
