Shanghai opens back-up medical institutions to expand centralized isolation and treatment beds

China News Service, Shanghai, March 22 (Reporter Chen Jing) Shanghai held a press conference on epidemic prevention and control on the 22nd. Wu Jinglei, director of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, said that according to the current needs of the epidemic, Shanghai has successively opened some back-up medical institutions, such as Zhoupu Hospital, for centralized isolation and treatment. He said that for these medical institutions, the operations and processes for admitting positive infected persons are relatively mature.

It is reported that in order to respond to the demand for medical treatment, Shanghai has launched an emergency plan, rapidly expanded the centralized isolation and treatment beds, and carried out centralized isolation and corresponding management and necessary treatment.

It is understood that on the 21st, Shanghai added 31 local confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia and 865 local asymptomatic infections. One confirmed case and 116 local asymptomatic infections were found in nucleic acid screening of relevant risk groups. 896 positive infected persons have been closed-loop transferred to the designated hospital for COVID-19 in Shanghai for isolation treatment or isolation medical observation. The current condition is stable. Fengqiao South House in Lianqin Village, Beicai Town, Pudong New Area is listed as a medium-risk area. Wu Jinglei said that at present, Shanghai is facing the most severe and complex challenge of the epidemic situation since the normalization of prevention and control, which has brought huge challenges to the traceability and prevention and control work. Shanghai will continue to improve the level of differentiated and precise prevention and control in different regions, quickly and effectively deal with clustered epidemics in local areas, and maximize the protection of people’s lives and health.

The newly announced “New Coronary Virus Pneumonia Diagnosis and Treatment Plan (Trial Version 9)” pointed out that centralized isolation management can be implemented for mild cases, and the isolation place is not limited to medical institutions. Symptomatic treatment and condition monitoring should be done well. If the condition worsens, it will be transferred to a designated hospital for treatment. Regarding the Fangcang shelter hospitals that are concerned by the public, Wu Jinglei said that the purpose of establishing Fangcang shelter hospitals is to classify and manage infected people and make better use of medical resources. For the setting and opening of such places, Shanghai will make corresponding work plans and relevant resource reserves according to the requirements of the state and the epidemic situation here. He introduced that the makeshift hospital is a place that has been renovated and meets the requirements. Gymnasiums, convention and exhibition centers, etc. can be temporarily built as centralized isolation management places, with medical personnel stationed, mainly for centralized isolation observation or appropriate symptomatic treatment of mild and asymptomatic infections. Once it is found that the infected person’s condition is getting worse, the doctor will promptly transfer him to a designated hospital for treatment.

On the same day, Wu Jinglei introduced that 140 confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia met the discharge criteria for confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia of the National Health Commission and have been discharged. Another 186 asymptomatic infections were released from medical observation, for a total of 326. (End)
