014 The Book of Songs·Guofeng·Zhaonan·Grass and Worms

Translation, Interpretation, Reading: All the Way

Weeds and insects chirped,

Grasshoppers twitched.

I haven’t seen my husband for a long time,

Worried and irritable.

If we meet one day,

If we meet one day,

let go of my hanging heart.

Climb up the Gaogao Nanshan Mountain,

picking green ferns.

It’s been a long time since I haven’t seen my husband,

I’m always worried.

If one day we meet,

If one day we meet,

happy my sad heart.

Climb up the Gaogao Nanshan Mountain,

pick the tender myrtle.

I haven’t seen my husband for too long,

My heart is sad alone.

If we meet one day,

If we meet one day,

sooth my haggard heart.

“Grass and Worms” – not seen Gentlemen are worried

When I was a child, I caught grasshoppers in the wild, swept my feet in the grass, and the grass and insects jumped around. I never imagined that it was a thumping heart.

The most interesting thing about reading “The Book of Songs” is these “bixings”, without exception, they are “plants, trees, birds and beasts” in nature closely related to human beings at that time. Zhu Xi defined “bixing” as follows: “Comparing one compares the other with the other; Xingxing refers to the other in order to evoke the chanted words.” To put it simply, bi is a metaphor. Just get excited.

The season of grass and insects jumping is in the autumn, and picking ferns and weeds is the spring of the coming year. Yi”, feeling a little calmer. Time heals everything, whether it’s scars or thoughts.

Isn’t it? “The grass and the worm, the katydid.” In one life, the grass and trees are in autumn.

This poem has survived and is widely used today with the idiom “worried”, the woman who missed her husband made a heart beat to this day.
