In March, the peak of influenza epidemic in Hangzhou continued unabated.
“I see a doctor at full capacity every day, and I don’t have time to eat lunch. At most, I read 128 numbers a day!” said Wang Di, Deputy Chief Physician of the Pediatric Fever Clinic of Hangzhou First People’s Hospital. There has been a sudden increase in emergency patients, and a new wave of pediatric fever has arrived.
Last week, there were more than 1,200 small patients on one day with the largest number of pediatric outpatient and emergency department visits in a city hospital.
“Influenza and pneumonia are the most common diseases in recent days, and the pediatric wards are all full.” Jiang Chunming, director of the pediatrics department of the city’s first hospital, said that almost every day the fever clinic and emergency department are quite busy.
This second wave is a bit “fierce”
Jiang Chunming introduced that there has been a high incidence of influenza B among children in fever clinics recently, and this wave of influenza B is different from previous years.
Children who came to the outpatient clinic had systemic symptoms that were more severe than before, mostly sudden onset. The main symptoms were fever, and the temperature could reach 39℃-40℃.The main symptoms were cough and sore throat , runny nose or nasal congestion, with chills, chills, headache, general muscle aches, fatigue, loss of appetite, sweating at night and other symptoms, and a small number of patients will also experience nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. And individual children with lower drug sensitivity, even after medication, the course of disease is longer.
“Influenza B is caused by influenza virus. Although it is not like influenza A that can cause large-scale epidemics, it is easy to spread in small areas such as kindergartens and schools. The situation of influenza has also changed under the prevention and control of the new crown epidemic. “In this regard, Jiang Chunming emphasized that this wave of influenza is coming.
Influenza, like colds caused by other respiratory viruses, is self-limiting. However, colds caused by other viruses usually recover in three to five days, and rarely cause complications. Influenza is different. If it is not treated in time, complications are likely to occur, and there is a certain fatality rate, which needs attention.
Mycoplasma pneumonia is rapidly progressing
During this time, in addition to preventing colds and fevers, prevent pneumonia. Jiang Chunming reminded: “Many children with fever suffer from mycoplasma pneumonia. About 70% of the children in the pediatric ward are hospitalized because of pneumonia.”
Jiang Chunming believes that mycoplasma pneumonia is the most difficult in this wave of pneumonia. Moreover, this year’s pneumonia has progressed extremely fast. The number of children with severe pneumonia in the hospital has increased significantly compared with previous years. Many children rapidly developed severe pneumonia in just a few days.
Just last month, a 10-year-old girl in a city hospital suffered from severe pneumonia, which quickly turned into a “white lung” in just a few days, and was finally rescued by ECMO (artificial lung).
“It may be related to the virulence of the epidemic strain of bacteria and virus itself, or it may be related to the fact that during the new crown epidemic, everyone always thought of ‘go to the hospital less, and resist as long as you can.’ Jiang Chunming said.
Keep virus away
Please take these precautions
The recent temperature has been like a roller coaster, and the weather changes so quickly that children with less resistance may not be able to carry it. To prevent the flu, we must first reduce crowd gatherings, do personal protection, and add clothes in time to prevent colds.
Jiang Chunming introduced that influenza B is a high incidence among children aged 1-10 years, and it is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract. Recently, children must wear masks when they go out, and do not go to crowded places. When you go home, you should wash your hands frequently, clean your nasal passages, don’t touch the skin and mucous membranes such as your nose, nose, and eyes if you don’t wash your hands, strengthen indoor ventilation, drink more water, stay up late, and rest more.
Also, use antibiotics with caution in the face of the flu. About 95% of colds are caused by viruses. If the diagnosis is clear, special antiviral drugs should be taken when necessary. Only with the rational use of antimicrobial drugs in normal times, when the child develops pneumonia, the drug will be more sensitive and the effect will be better.
Finally, it is worth reminding that parents should take their children to get the flu vaccine 1 month before the flu season. October-November is the best time to get the flu vaccine.
