My heart is pounding. What’s wrong?

Sometimes I feel like my little heart is pounding, which may or may not be accompanied by breathing difficulties, dizziness and weakness, chest tightness and breathlessness… You may have encountered arrhythmia. Guo Jun, director of the Cardiology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, introduced that the most common cause of palpitation is arrhythmia, and some arrhythmias cannot be ignored. When you have symptoms, you should be especially vigilant and go to the hospital for regular treatment immediately.

Guo Jun introduced that the medical term for palpitation is called “palpitations”, which simply means that you can feel your heart beating. This is a common symptom that many people experience.

The most common cause of heart palpitations is arrhythmia. The so-called heart rhythm is the frequency and rhythm of the heart beating. Heartbeats that are too fast, too slow, or irregular heartbeats can all lead to feelings of palpitation. In fact, there may be two different aspects of the situation.

One is functional palpitation. What is functional panic? It mainly includes three situations:

1. The human body is in a closed, airtight, and airtight environment for a long time, and the usual activities are too little, the quality of sleep is poor, patients with neurasthenia, and autonomic dysfunction It often leads to palpitation and chest tightness.

2. People are highly nervous, feeling too depressed, and too much psychological pressure will often lead to palpitation and chest tightness.

3. Drinking strong tea, coffee, drinking a lot of alcohol, smoking a lot, etc. can also lead to palpitation and chest tightness.

The second is pathological (organic) palpitation, which should be especially vigilant, including:

1. Premature beats, such as atrial premature beats, junctional premature beats and premature ventricular contractions, etc.

2. Tachycardia, such as sinus tachycardia, paroxysmal tachycardia and rapid atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter caused by various reasons.

3. Bradycardia, sinus bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome and high-grade atrioventricular block.

4. Various organic heart diseases, some of which can be caused by hypertensive heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, primary cardiomyopathy and some congenital heart disease.

How is arrhythmia treated? According to Guo Jun, it mainly includes the following four aspects:

1. If the work rhythm is tense, the ideological pressure is too high, the sleep is insufficient or the quality of sleep is poor, and the spirit is tense, etc., the rhythm of life and work should be adjusted in time, and the mood should be relaxed. , Ensure adequate sleep, increase outdoor exercise, most of them can have obvious effects after a few months.

2. Some people have obvious anxiety state. It is recommended to go to the psychiatry department to do some tests. If necessary, use some anti-anxiety drugs, which will have a good effect.

3. Generally opposed to taking supplements. If you really need it, you should also take it under the guidance of a doctor. Blind “tonic” will have many side effects.

4. For patients who feel palpitation is more serious, you can ask the doctor to auscultate to see whether the pulse is fast or slow or whether it is orderly, which is helpful to initially determine the cause. If possible, you can do an electrocardiogram, preferably a 24-hour dynamic electrocardiogram or even a 3-7 day long-term dynamic electrocardiogram, which can continuously record long-term ECG signals and detect more detailed abnormalities. Arrhythmia specialist help.

Finally, Guo Jun reminded that people should be especially vigilant and go to the hospital immediately for regular treatment when symptoms such as markedly faster heartbeat, disordered heartbeat, dizziness, difficulty breathing, angina pectoris or even syncope occur.
