The Punjab Communicable Disease Control Department also confirmed that nine cases of acute watery diarrhoea in Lahore were caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with Vibrio cholerae.
The department pointed out that the above data is only provided by public teaching hospitals in Lahore, and that cases reported by private medical institutions and general practitioners may be many times more than the data obtained by the infectious disease control department.
Pakistan public health experts fear Lahore’s drinking water supply may have been contaminated as cases continue to rise.
