Japan’s new crown cases exceeded 100,000 in a single day, with a total of more than 10 million confirmed cases

According to the statistics of the Japan Broadcasting Association TV station, on the 15th, there were 103,311 new confirmed cases of the new crown in Japan, with a total of 10,119,009 confirmed cases; 31 new deaths and a total of 31,578 deaths. This is the first time in more than 5 months that the number of newly confirmed cases in Japan has exceeded 100,000 in a single day, and it is also the second highest record since the outbreak of the epidemic.

Japan has so far confirmed more than 10 million cases of the new crown, more than 80% of which were reported this year. The highest record of newly confirmed cases in a single day appeared on February 5 this year, when 104,169 new cases were confirmed that day.

Affected by the spread of the new subtype BA.5 of the mutated new coronavirus strain Omicron, the number of new crown infections in Japan has increased rapidly recently. According to data from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, in the week ending on the 12th, the number of newly confirmed cases in Japan was 2.14 times that of the previous week. On the 13th and 14th, the number of newly confirmed cases in Japan exceeded 90,000 for two consecutive days. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced on the 14th that it will raise the alert level of the new crown epidemic to the highest level.
