China-aided Sino-Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital completes first organ transplant

Xinhua News Agency, Colombo, March 17 (Reporter Tang Lu and Che Hongliang) The China-Sri Lanka Friendship and Sri Lanka National Nephrology Hospital (referred to as China-Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital), which was built with the aid of the Chinese government, recently successfully performed a living donor kidney transplant. This is the first organ transplant operation completed after the hospital was officially opened.

According to the hospital, the recipient of the transplant was a 28-year-old woman who suffered from kidney disease for 10 years. After the recommendation and demonstration by authoritative experts, the hospital decided to donate the kidney by the patient’s mother. The mother and daughter were in normal condition after the operation, and both the medical staff and the patient were very satisfied with the results of the operation.

The famous Sri Lankan organ transplant doctor Jayavikrama, who was in charge of the operation, said that the success of the operation was due to the full preparation and close cooperation of all parties, as well as the hospital’s advanced and complete medical facilities. Director of the China-Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital Kumara said that the success of this transplant operation is a good start, which makes the hospital more confident to become an important kidney transplant platform in Sri Lanka and even South Asia.

Sino-Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital is located in Polonnaruwa, central Sri Lanka. The hospital has a construction area of ​​25,000 square meters and has 200 general inpatient beds and 100 hemodialysis beds. Currently, the outpatient clinic receives about 200 patients per day.
