A 37-year-old patient with severe gastrointestinal hemorrhage was rescued and discharged, and the emergency department of the Ninth Hospital has treated more than 12,000 patients since April

This morning (May 16), Mr. Liu was successfully discharged from the ICU of the Emergency Department of Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital. Mr. Liu’s mother thanked the doctors and nurses for saving her son’s young life.

On April 28, 37-year-old Mr. Liu went to the emergency department of the Ninth Hospital due to black stools, and his condition was relatively stable after drug treatment. But shortly after being in the hospital for observation, Mr. Liu’s condition suddenly worsened, and the bright red blood samples quickly soaked through the diapers and oozes onto the hospital bed.

Blood pressure decreased, consciousness gradually blurred, heart rate and breathing became worse and worse. Emergency doctors and emergency room nurses immediately established deep venous access for the patient, blood transfusion, fluid infusion, and vital signs were maintained. However, Mr. Liu’s hemoglobin continued to decline, and the situation was not optimistic. Emergency endoscopic support was urgently needed.

Meng Xiangjun, director of the Department of Gastroenterology, received the call and immediately drove all the way to the endoscopy room nurse and rushed to the hospital. Vascular surgeons and general surgeons are always on call.

Meng Xiangjun put on protective equipment as quickly as possible and entered the endoscopy room for first aid treatment. I saw blood from the mucous membrane on the anterior wall of the patient’s duodenum like a small fountain, and the patient retched from time to time, the titanium clip was released, and the bleeding was immediately reduced. After submucosal injection, the dangerous bleeding stopped in just a few minutes!

“In the extraordinary period of epidemic prevention and control, emergency ‘5+2’ ‘white and black’, medical and nursing staff on duty around the clock, multidisciplinary cooperation, do not delay emergency treatment. Since April, more than 12,000 patients have been treated. Recently For a few days, 30 or so 120 ambulances were sent to the hospital every day.” Xu Bin, director of the emergency department of the Ninth Hospital, introduced that in order to ensure the treatment needs of critically ill patients, the hospital opened an isolation ward and emergency room in early April. Except for 3 doctors in the emergency department who work in the designated hospital for the treatment of the new crown in the northern part of the Ninth Hospital, the rest of the doctors have stayed in the hospital since the lockdown and have not returned home.
