2. Is excessive iodine intake harmful to human body?

High iodine, like low iodine, will endanger human health, causing adverse reactions such as high iodine goiter, and even iodine-derived hyperthyroidism. Excessive long-term iodine intake can lead to thyroid autoregulation imbalance and dysfunction, leading to goiter and hypothyroidism, and can also induce or promote the occurrence and development of autoimmune thyroiditis.

Excessive iodine intake during pregnancy can also damage fetal thyroid function and cause neonatal hypothyroidism.

In areas with high iodine (disease) origin, the iodine content in drinking water is already very high, so people should not eat iodized salt. Local people should do the following: eat uniodized salt; stop or reduce the intake of iodine-containing food or iodine-containing health products; if the water has been changed, please drink qualified water to reduce the intake of iodine.
