Irreversible visual damage caused by glaucoma
< p> Glaucoma is a common eye disease that threatens and damages the optic nerve and optic function, and its occurrence is mainly related to pathological elevated intraocular pressure. The visual impairment caused by glaucoma is irreversible and lifelong. If not treated in time, it may lead to total loss of visual field and eventually blindness. The onset of glaucoma is hidden, and there are often no obvious symptoms in the early stage. Patients may only feel slight soreness in the eyes or blurred vision, etc., and often think that it is caused by eye fatigue, thus delaying the disease. Director Sun Hong suggested that if there is any abnormality in the eyes, you must seek medical attention in time, and intervene and treat early.
Glaucoma is not an exclusive disease of the elderly
Old age is indeed a major risk factor for glaucoma , but not only the elderly will get glaucoma, people of all ages may have the disease, even newborn babies are no exception.
There are currently two types of glaucoma. One is angle-closure glaucoma and the other is open-angle glaucoma. Angle-closure glaucoma usually occurs in people over the age of 40 and presents as an acute attack. During the attack, the angle of the chamber is suddenly closed, the intraocular pressure rises sharply to more than 40mmHg, and even reaches about 60mmHg (the normal value of intraocular pressure is 10-21mmHg). In some cases, it may be accompanied by uncomfortable symptoms such as headache, nausea, and vomiting. Open-angle glaucoma can occur at any age. The patient has no obvious uncomfortable symptoms, and has a tolerance to the increase in intraocular pressure, so he only feels slight blurred vision, eye swelling, etc., and often waits until the late stage of glaucoma, with obvious visual field defects and obvious visual acuity. Seeing a doctor again when it drops, delaying the best time for treatment.
Director Sun Hong said that advanced age, family history, high myopia or hyperopia, diabetes or cardiovascular disease are all high risk factors for glaucoma. These people must have regular eye examinations, including vision , intraocular pressure, fundus examination and slit lamp examination.
Glaucoma patients should not stop medication without authorization
In the treatment of glaucoma, intraocular pressure is the only Controlling factors is also the primary treatment principle. There are many ways to lower intraocular pressure, such as drug therapy, laser therapy or surgery. For different types of glaucoma, different treatment methods are adopted. Since the visual impairment caused by glaucoma is irreversible, the treatment is also lifelong.
In addition, glaucoma patients should not wear too tight collars. Pillow should be properly raised when sleeping. Try to avoid using your eyes for a long time in the dark environment, avoid working with your head down for a long time, and follow the “three A 20” eye protection principle. At the same time, Director Sun Hong suggested that glaucoma patients can eat some foods that help control intraocular pressure, such as ginger, garlic, broccoli, etc.
This bad habit must be changed
