Hepatitis B is a stubborn disease that has plagued generations. It is estimated that there are about 86 million people infected with hepatitis B virus in my country. dream.

At present, many hospitals across the country have successively opened outpatient clinics for clinical cure of hepatitis B. On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day on July 28, 2022, we walked into the country’s first hepatitis B clinic with “clinical cure” as the core – Peking University People’s Hospital Hepatitis B Clinical Cure Clinic to find out.

Why Hepatitis B Clinical Cure Clinics

With the improvement of living standards and the continuous improvement of health awareness Enhanced, public and clinical medical concepts have developed from “treatment of severe cases” to “disease management”. In the management of various chronic diseases and patients, it is more advantageous to intervene from outpatient clinics. In this context, the concept of “special disease outpatient clinic” has gradually matured in recent years, and has been applied and developed in different disease fields.

“The establishment of specialized disease clinics is also in response to the requirements of the National Health and Health Commission to gradually transform from traditional specialized clinics to ‘disease-centered’ specialized disease clinics.” The Department of Hepatology, Peking University People’s Hospital closed Professor Bo said that taking the clinical cure clinic of hepatitis B as an example, this clinic is a specialized disease clinic that aims to maximize the possibility of clinical cure for patients with chronic hepatitis B infection. We will customize individualized treatment plans, while focusing on efficacy and determination, management of adverse reactions and patient follow-up.

Clinical cure rate of hepatitis B predominant patients can reach more than 30%

“Hepatitis B is one of the main diseases in the outpatient department of liver disease, and antiviral treatment can It can effectively inhibit the virus, but it is difficult to clear the virus.” Professor Feng Bo said that with the deepening of research, the concept of “clinical cure” marked by negative HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) has been proposed and recognized by domestic and foreign liver disease experts. With clinical cure, the risk of liver disease progressing to cirrhosis and liver cancer is greatly reduced, and antiviral drugs are expected to be discontinued. The risk of liver cancer is equal to the level of healthy people.

So, is the cure rate of hepatitis B high? Data show that in the past 10 years, the clinical cure rate of hepatitis B can reach about 30% under the treatment plan based on nucleoside (acid) analogs and peginterferon alpha-2b. There is also some clinical evidence for the clinical cure of different hepatitis B virus-infected groups. For example, after 48 weeks of peginterferon treatment, the clinical cure rate of hepatitis B children aged 3-17 years is more than 50%, and inactive hepatitis B indicates that antigen carriers are expected to achieve a clinical cure rate of 47%.

The latest published abstract of the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver contains the 3.5-year phased data of the China Chronic Hepatitis B Clinical Cure (Mount Everest) Project. Data from a large sample showed that in patients with chronic hepatitis B treated with nucleoside (acid) analogs sequentially or in combination with peginterferon alfa-2b, the clearance rate of hepatitis B surface antigen reached 33.2% at 48 weeks, of which the baseline hepatitis B surface antigen was 33.2%. The clearance rate was 56.1% in patients with less than 100 IU/mL.

Experts recommend two types of patients to register for medical treatment

Feng Bo said that after the opening of the clinic for clinical cure of hepatitis B, the patient feedback was very good, it was more convenient to see a doctor, and With more confidence, doctors have a clearer target for the patient’s personal situation and disease treatment, which can be felt by patients and their families.

“Most liver diseases are chronic diseases, and the occurrence and development of the disease and treatment are closely related to follow-up. For patients who are willing to treat and pursue health, they can take the initiative to seek treatment by ‘symptom registration’. The strongest motivation for outpatient clinics.” Professor Feng Bo said that chronic hepatitis B patients who are treated with long-term nucleoside (acid) analogs and hepatitis B virus infection patients whose surface antigen is lower than 1500IU/mL are recommended to sign the outpatient number. The outpatient clinic is attended by well-known experts. After the patients arrive at the clinic, they will first evaluate whether they are the dominant group of clinical cures, and introduce the relevant indications, treatment plans, efficacy and judgment, adverse reactions and follow-up in detail, especially the supporting examinations, supporting Treatment measures have been further expanded, enabling patients to receive “one-stop” systematic services, greatly improving the quality and efficiency of diagnosis and treatment.

In addition, hospitals across the country, such as Peking University First Hospital, Guangzhou Eighth People’s Hospital, and Shandong First Medical University Affiliated Digestive Disease Hospital, have also opened Hepatitis B clinical cure clinics.
