An old man in very shabby clothes, carrying a bamboo dung basket on his shoulders, holding a dung picking fork in his arms, hunched over, facing the cold wind, walking alone, this is the An old man who picks up dung. Early in the morning, when the sky was still bright, he came out to pick up the dung left by past livestock on the official road.
Suddenly, he stopped, and he saw a man curled up in the ditch of the official road. A ragged, thin frozen zombie body, with a slight layer of hoarfrost on the body. He knew that this was a beggar who died of starvation last night. The old man sighed and shook his head helplessly. This was the first time he had encountered such a thing.
So he reported to the state officials of Tongzhou as usual with beggars who had frozen to death. When the state official ordered an autopsy, he discovered a poem called “Poem of Death”.
The state official began to write poetry, and after reading the seven-character lyric poem written by the beggar before his death, he couldn’t help but sigh. Out of admiration for the beggar poet, the state officials ordered people to bury the beggar poet on the spot and erect a monument saying: “The Tomb of the Poetry Beggar in Yongjia” (because the poet beggar is from Yongjia, hence the name “Yongjia Poetry Beggar”).
The official erected a monument for a beggar who died tragically, and the inscription was also called “Yongjia Poetry Beggar”, which shows the level and influence of this poem at that time. The first couplet said, “My life is like a gull on the water, and I carry a bamboo stick to Nanzhou.” My background is like a gull and bird on the water, but I have to pass through Nanzhou with a cane no matter what.
The “water gull” uses the “Piao Piao He” in Du Fu’s “Lv Ye Shu Huai”. It’s like, there is a seagull in the world”. And “bamboo stick” originated from Su Shi’s “Ding Fengbo”, “Bamboo stick manshoes are lighter than horses. Who is afraid?
