The land of Bashu has been fragrant since ancient times. The Jingbei Plain is also an important granary area. The Jingyun Granary is located in Wuxing Village, Dexin Town, Jingyang District, Deyang City, Sichuan Province. This is an idle collective asset, where the village clinic and the old movie theater are located. Today, relying on the establishment of the modern agricultural park of grain and oil in Jingyang District, Deyang City, it has become a complex integrating agricultural product display, farmer training, and pastoral office.
The architectural appearance of Jingyun Granary draws on the common courtyard form in traditional western Sichuan dwellings. The structure of “Small Courtyard” is adapted to the regional characteristics of less sunlight and more rain in the western Sichuan Basin. The building follows the trend and is formed on three sides. While breaking the limitations of the site, it also takes advantage of the lightweight structure to turn the traditional eaves structure to form a vivid facade that “looks horizontally as a ridge and a peak on the side”.
The designer follows the The design idea of ”law nature” has sorted out the surrounding landscape of the building, eliminated the gap between the building and the farmland, and made the whole building blend into the countryside and breathe nature. After the lighting of the skyline, the arrangement of planting belts, the restoration of exterior walls, and the unified beautification of the front and courtyard of the house, the style of the dwellings has been systematically improved.
In ancient times, the granary was a place for storing grain. Today, the granary is no longer limited to its original function, and has become a place where people connect with the earth and between people. The intervention of architecture injects new ideas into the daily life of farmers. In 2021, when the granary is first completed, it will be the main venue for Jingyang District’s “Spring Poems Collection Spring Tour Season” theme event, and it will become a landmark building for villagers and visitors from all directions to check in on the Jingbei Plain.
At sunset, local residents in twos and threes come here for a walk and refreshment; on weekends, there are also many people who drive to the park for vacation. City tourists. With the development of multiple scenes of enjoying the Jingyang countryside, such as “going around the park, tasting agricultural food, buying agricultural products, and exploring agricultural interests”, the identities of contemporary Jingyang farmers can switch freely between farmers and makers, and communicate with them. Tourists thrive together.
