Take the “cheat sheet” into the operating room! The behavior of this doctor in Hangzhou is too warm

“At 18:00, I went to the operating room and found the cheat sheet of the beautiful doctor… I hope it’s over now.” A few days ago, Shen Zhuping, head nurse of the Comprehensive Nursing Unit of Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, posted a circle of friends with a picture of a Zhang has a handwritten “surgery list” with hand-drawn stick figures.

This “cheat sheet”, which has been liked by many people, is from Mao Xiaochun, deputy chief physician of the Thyroid Surgery Department of Zhejiang Cancer Hospital. Every time she entered the operating room, she would bring such a “cheat sheet”: an A4-sized piece of paper on which the thyroid glands of each patient undergoing surgery on the day were drawn one by one, and the size, location, and surgical method of the tumor were marked.

This “cheat sheet” will be posted on the wall of the operating room, and all medical staff in the surgical team will be able to see the basic information of the surgical patient as soon as they look up.

“We have electronic archives of this information, and we will double-check it before surgery.” Mao Xiaochun said that such a cheat sheet is equivalent to adding an extra layer of insurance. “The key is that it looks more convenient for everyone.”

Mao Xiaochun has two operation days a week. Before each operation day, she will turn on the computer system, check the information of several surgical patients one by one, and then take out a piece of paper to carefully record the basic conditions of the patients.

The patient’s name, bed, location and size of the thyroid tumor, whether there is lymph node metastasis, whether it is laparoscopic surgery or open surgery… In addition to the written records, she also draws a short thyroid after each patient’s name, And draw the location of the tumor.

Sometimes there were six or seven patients on the surgery day, sometimes eight or nine, and she would rank them one by one.

After sorting, Mao Xiaochun will bring this cheat sheet into the operating room and post it on the wall for the convenience of the medical staff in the group to view.

Rechecking the patient’s information before surgery is what the medical staff of the surgery team would have done.

“I think ‘good memory is not as good as bad writing’, and bringing such a ‘cheat sheet’ into it is equivalent to adding a layer of insurance. In addition, whether it is a surgeon, an anesthesiologist and nurse, when preparing for surgery It looks more convenient.” Mao Xiaochun gave an example. For example, in the preparation of instruments, the instruments required for endoscopic surgery and open surgery are different. In many cases, there are eight or nine operations a day, and these preparations must be made between two operations. Such a “cheat sheet” as a reminder is not only convenient to view, but also saves time.

During the daily preoperative conversation, Mao Xiaochun would draw and talk to the patient

Drawing simple strokes on the cheat sheet can be regarded as Mao Xiaochun’s “unique secret”. This idea originated from daily preoperative conversations with patients.

“In our department, during preoperative conversations, we always use molds, and we also draw a simple diagram while talking.” Mao Xiaochun explained: What does the thyroid gland look like? Where does it grow? Where is the tumor? What organizations are around? Where will the surgery be removed? For patients, these are professional and abstract. “Sometimes it may be difficult to explain, but it is easier to understand if it is simply drawn.”

There are indeed many patients. After seeing the diagrams she drew, they felt that they understood all at once.

Having been a doctor for more than 10 years, Mao Xiaochun has a philosophy, that is, he must fully explain the condition and the operation to the patient before the operation. did.”

The preoperative conversation will also use the model

The communication process of the preoperative conversation requires the doctor to spend time and energy. Mao Xiaochun is willing to spend a little more time in this link.

Many thyroid tumor patients are young people. Some patients come prepared. They have checked a lot of information. Others have studied the diagnosis and treatment guidelines, or even the English version of the foreign diagnosis and treatment guidelines. The questions are detailed and professional.

Mao Xiaochun is always ready to answer questions, “I’m still very happy that they ask more questions before surgery. For those patients who know better, we will use professional methods to talk to him, he will feel convinced, right? If there is any problem, explain it to them in a simple and easy-to-understand way, as long as the patient is willing to communicate, they can always explain the condition clearly.”
