In order to allow more tourists to appreciate this rare and endangered plant in the world, the National Botanical Garden (North Garden) Exhibition Greenhouse will be held from July 19th to 20th. Specially hold the “Konjac Night” night event. In the exhibition greenhouse, visitors can enjoy the giant konjac in full bloom, watch popular science videos of giant konjac, appreciate konjac products, and learn about this rare plant in the world from many aspects.

The giant konjac is a plant of the genus Araceae, native to the tropical jungles of Sumatra Island in western Indonesia. It is a rare and endangered plant in the world. After first blooming in Kew Gardens in 1889, the giant konjac bloomed more than 100 times in botanical gardens around the world in the years that followed. Every flowering of the giant konjac can be regarded as a major event in the world botanical garden community.

This is the second giant konjac to bloom recently at the National Arboretum. The giant konjac that bloomed this time, the first giant konjac that bloomed on July 6, and the third giant konjac that was about to bloom formed the world’s first population of giant konjac under artificial cultivation. In my country, since the first blooming in the North Garden of the National Botanical Garden (formerly the Beijing Botanical Garden) in 2011, this is the seventh bloom, five of which are in the National Botanical Garden (North Garden) and two in the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden. While exhibiting the giant konjac, the National Botanical Garden will also release the video of the giant konjac male flower polluting for the first time. Through scientific and technological means, let everyone appreciate the peculiar side of giant konjac. Experts from the National Botanical Garden (North Garden) said that the flowering of giant konjac is no longer a problem, and the next step will be to conduct more in-depth research, development and utilization of giant konjac.
