On the evening of July 9, the Wuchang District Center for Disease Control and Prevention received a report from the hospital that there was a case of infectious diarrhea in Wuhan University , mainly vomiting and diarrhea, accompanied by low-grade fever, and the serological agglutination test was O139 positive. After review by the provincial and municipal tertiary CDCs, the serological agglutination test of this case was positive for O139, the diagnosis was cholera, and the virulence gene was negative. After effective diagnosis and treatment, the patient’s condition has been controlled, and the symptoms have disappeared. The Wuchang Center for Disease Control and Prevention has organized professional institutions to conduct sampling, testing and tracking management of relevant personnel, and conduct temporary closure and control management and disinfection of relevant places. No new cases have been found so far.
There have been no deaths in the past two years
Cholera is an acute intestinal infectious disease. It is also one of the quarantine infectious diseases stipulated in the Frontier Health and Quarantine Law.
According to the “Cholera Prevention and Control in New China” of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, cholera is an infectious disease of global concern and key prevention and control. It is transmitted through food and water. One of the characteristics of cholera outbreaks in areas where food and drinking water are safe is sudden outbreaks and rapid spread in the form of acute intestinal infectious diseases.
Cholera has caused seven world pandemics since recorded outbreaks. And each time it started in Asia, spread to other continents and continued for many years. After the seventh global cholera pandemic emerged in 1961 and was introduced to my country that year, cholera prevention and control has become one of the primary tasks for my country to control infectious diseases and protect people’s health.
According to the data previously released by the National Health Commission’s Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention, in 2021, In 2020, 11 cases of cholera with no deaths were reported nationwide; in January and March 2021, a total of 2 cases of cholera were reported nationwide, with no deaths.
