Soft tissue sarcoma (STS) refers to a group of malignant tumors originating from non-epithelial extraosseous tissue. It does not include the reticuloendothelial system, glial cells and supporting tissues of various parenchymal organs. STS is mainly derived from mesoderm and partly from neuroectoderm, mainly including muscle, fat, fibrous tissue, blood vessels and peripheral nerves.

STS accounts for 0.72%-1.05% of all malignant tumors in human beings. The annual incidence rate in my country is about 2.91/100,000, and the ratio of male to female is close to 1:1. The incidence of STS is age-related, and the incidence increases significantly with age. Based on age-adjusted incidence rates, the incidence at age 80 was about eight times higher than at age 30. The most common site of STS was the extremities, accounting for approximately 53%, followed by retroperitoneal (19%), trunk (12%), and head and neck (11%).
