Yang Jiayue: A Chinese Communist Party Member’s Medical Oath

Among the doctors in Wuxi People’s Hospital, there is such a returned Chinese Communist Party member born in the 1985s. She went from a “literary student” to a career in medicine, and proved that her path was not wrong with practical actions. After graduating from studying abroad, she did not stay in a foreign country or emigrated, but chose to return to her hometown – Wuxi.

As a clinician in the Department of Endocrinology, Yang Jiayue always puts the patient’s health and life safety first. His favorite words are “Doctor Yang, you have explained the problem clearly, I understand.” A party member, she bravely shoulders heavy burdens at critical moments, does not back down in the face of difficulties, and does her best to exert the spirit of the angel in white to save the dying.

Set sail: liberal arts students apply for medical school

Yang Jiayue’s parents are both doctors, and there are six doctors in her mother’s family. At that time, she was studying in Wuxi No. 1 Middle School. After she chose liberal arts in her second year of high school, she did not consider taking the path of “studying medicine”. When filling out the college entrance examination, she accidentally discovered that Nantong University School of Medicine is one of the few medical schools in the country that offers both arts and sciences.

“Actually, when I think about it now, I am grateful to my alma mater for recruiting liberal arts students at that time, so that I could catch up with the last train.” In five years of college, in a medical school where science students are the main students, as the only liberal arts student in the whole grade, she relies on “books” It is the obsession that can be read through, no matter how difficult it is, and has refreshed the best scores in the subjects again and again, won national and provincial honors many times, and took the first place in the whole grade in the comprehensive assessment during the school period. Graduated successfully.

Go forward bravely: go to study “on the other side of the ocean”

Medical students have a long way to study. After recommending postgraduate students majoring in endocrinology in our school without examination, in 2014, Yang Jiayue entered the School of Medicine of Southeast University to study for a doctoral degree. Under the arrangement and help of the tutor, during the master’s degree, Yang Jiayue went to the Medical School of the University of Zurich in Switzerland as a visiting student, and then went to the University of California, Los Angeles as a state-sponsored joint training doctoral student, under the tutelage of the former American Pancreas Association. Chair Professor Stephen J Pandol.

During the two and a half years of studying in the United States, Yang Jiayue, under the patient guidance of his tutors and the seniors of the research group, conducted in-depth mechanisms on “the effect of pancreatic stellate cells on the process of pancreatic fibrosis and pancreatitis in a high-glucose and high-insulin environment” Sexual exploration. And the concept of “scientific research is guided by clinical needs and serves the clinic” is rooted in the heart. During my study abroad, I also met seniors from well-known domestic universities such as Union Medical College, Huaxi, and Southern Medical, and received their selfless help. When she was approaching her return to China, after careful consideration, she declined her supervisor’s invitation to continue her postdoctoral work in the United States and made the decision to return to China.

Through trials and hardships: returning to China to “be a good doctor”

At the end of 2016, Yang Jiayue joined Wuxi People’s Hospital and became a clinician in the Department of Endocrinology. The onset of endocrine system diseases is often hidden and difficult to identify. It is necessary to find the cause through repeated reasoning and judgment from the perspective of the whole body through every signal in the body. Therefore, doctors of endocrinology pay special attention to a solid and extensive professional knowledge of internal medicine.

At work, colleagues jokingly call her a “model worker”. She has an elderly “old fan group” that provides one-to-one VIP services for the elderly living alone after being discharged from the hospital. “Doctor Yang, you’ve made the problem very clear, I understand” is what she loves to hear. She brought patients not only physical treatment, but also psychological comfort. Not only that, clinical and scientific research go hand in hand, publish papers, host or participate in a number of scientific research projects and apply for national invention patents.

Make persistent efforts: responsibility is on the road, dedication is on the road

After the outbreak of the new crown epidemic in 2020, as a member of the Communist Party, Yang Jiayue signed up to support the fever clinic as soon as possible, and always stick to his post no matter how busy he is. As a member of the Liangxi District Political Consultative Conference, she used her rest time to go to the community testing point to support and relieve the pressure of testing in the grassroots community. As a member of the Youth Committee of the Wuxi Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and the vice president of the European and American Students Association of Liangxi District, she studied and communicated with everyone, actively participated in activities, and met many excellent partners who also returned from studying abroad, which strengthened her love for the motherland.

“Among my family members, my grandmother was an old party member. When she was alive, in her 80s, she urged my uncle to pay her party dues on a regular basis, which left a deep impression on me.” Yang Jiayue said that grandmother’s words and deeds taught me In 2007, she submitted an application for joining the party to the school during her sophomore year of college, and became a glorious Communist Party member during her college years.

When she was studying abroad, when she witnessed the rapid development of the motherland, Yang Jiayue became more firm in her belief in returning to China and actively moving closer to the party organization. “During the epidemic, I saw the example power of countless Communist Party members, who were vividly displayed in front of me – especially able to endure hardship and fight. Such a strong cohesion is something I have never seen during my study abroad.” Yang Jiayue emotion.

“Responsibility is on the road, dedication is on the road, this is my original intention as a party member.” Yang Jiayue said. (Jinana)
