“Ten years ago, I was a leukemia patient”
Not long ago, in the interview for a master’s degree candidate in hematology at Zhejiang University School of Medicine held in the First Hospital of Zhejiang University, a tall, thin boy was very “dazzling”.
This boy’s name is Chen Ge (pseudonym). He rarely tells his story to others on his own initiative, but at this moment he has to tell it to a group of interviewers in white coats on the opposite side, because it used to be a The benefactor he rescued from the dead.
Back in 2012, Chen Ge was only 16 years old and a sophomore in a key high school somewhere in Zhejiang.
One day in a math class, Chen Ge found that the middle part of a straight line on the blackboard was blurry. He asked his deskmate curiously, can he see the middle part of the straight line on the blackboard? The tablemate was surprised at his question and said he could see clearly.
His mother immediately took him to the ophthalmology department of a local hospital for an examination. After examination, it was found that he had bleeding symptoms in the fundus of his right eye. The local hospital suggested that he have a blood test. After the blood routine, the hospital recommended immediate hospitalization for further bone biopsy.
Even though nearly ten years have passed, Chen Ge is still very impressed with the situation of his first bone piercing, “Because I was lying on my side on the bed at the time, I couldn’t help shaking, and it was strange that my tears came out. “
The result of bone puncture came out – acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Chen Ge’s blurred vision was caused by severe thrombocytopenia and extramedullary infiltration of leukemia cells.
“Want to be someone who encourages and heals others”
In the First Hospital of Zhejiang University, Chen Ge underwent chemotherapy. During his hospitalization for chemotherapy, he met many patients with similar experiences.
Since then, he has learned about the leukemia group, and has completely “hit” into the deepest part of this group. He said: “We are a special group that even needs to wear masks for hospitalization.”
After the first chemotherapy, Chen Ge’s leukemia got a complete remission. However, in the follow-up consolidation therapy, the leukemia showed a relapse state. Finally, in June 2013, the Yellow River team from the First Hospital of Zhejiang University performed an unrelated hematopoietic stem cell transplant from the Tzu Chi Bone Marrow Bank in Taiwan. He returned to the campus two years after the transplant.
In 2017, Chen Ge took the college entrance examination and applied for the clinical medicine major of a medical school in Zhejiang. Chen Ge said that when he thinks about his health now and the patients in the ward in the past, he also really wants to be a person who encourages and treats others.
“You are more qualified than anyone else”
“Dr. Huang, can I become a hematologist?”
Approaching the graduation of undergraduate degree, Chen Ge needs to make a choice, what direction to become a doctor? In a regular review, Chen Ge sincerely asked Huang He, the dean of the First Hospital of Zhejiang University and the leader of the hematology department.
Huang He said, “I think you are more qualified to study blood than other students because you have overcome blood diseases.”
Professor Huang He (right) ward rounds
Seeing Chen Ge in the master’s interview, Dean Huang He felt very “trance” and expected. He was very pleased to see the leukemia patients treated by him return to society and have a heart to treat others. .
According to the First Hospital of Zhejiang University, Dean Huang He often tells patients that “we cannot be defeated by leukemia”. Although this road is very difficult, as long as we work together hand in hand, we can hope to find the original life, and it is still very exciting. life.
