Considered a “surgical forbidden area”, a difficult case of “left hepatectomy combined with caudate lobectomy” was completed in our district

Yesterday, the reporter learned during an interview that the Department of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Spleen Surgery of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region People’s Hospital completed a difficult case of “left hemihepatic combined with caudate lobectomy”. Significant progress has been made in liver surgery.

According to reports, the 61-year-old patient came to Inner Mongolia Hospital for more than a month of intermittent epigastric discomfort. After admission, further examination revealed that the patient’s caudate lobe tumor was about 5 cm in diameter, with an extremely special location, almost completely surrounding and compressing the retrohepatic inferior vena cava. The anatomical position of the caudate lobe itself is very special. Compared with the resection of other parts of the liver, the resection of the caudate lobe is extremely difficult. It was once considered a “surgical forbidden area”. To prevent uncontrollable bleeding during surgery, the risk of surgery is extremely high.

In order to carry out the operation smoothly, the medical staff of the hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and spleen surgery held several preoperative discussions to clarify the diagnosis and the final operation plan. After full communication with the patient’s family, after strict preoperative evaluation and full preoperative preparation, with the assistance of the anesthesia team headed by Chief Physician Liu Xiaoyao of the Second Department of Anesthesia, on April 12, Chief Physician Xia Yijun and Chief Physician Wang Didong performed the surgery. Physician, chief physician Li Zhifei performed the operation for the assistant’s team. After 10 hours of hard work, the operation was successfully completed.

After the operation, the patient recovered well without complications, and the patient has been discharged smoothly. Patients and their families spoke highly of the superb surgical skills of the hepatobiliary, pancreatic and spleen surgeons and the attentive care of the nursing team.
