Recently, my country began to deploy the new crown vaccine sequential booster immunization. What is sequential booster immunization? The third shot has been given, is there a need for sequential booster immunizations? In response to public concerns, experts from the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council gave authoritative answers.

What is sequential immunization?

Wang Huaqing, chief expert of the immunization program of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, explained the concept of “sequential immunization”, that is, vaccines using different technical routes, according to a certain time interval and a certain number of doses, in order to prevent A strategy for vaccination to improve efficacy or further reduce the risk of serious adverse reactions.

Shao Yiming, a member of the expert group for vaccine research and development of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism Scientific Research Team of the State Council, introduced that for viruses with strong variability and difficult to deal with, sequential immunization will be used.

Why was sequential booster immunization initiated?

In order to respond to changes in the new coronavirus and improve the effectiveness of existing new crown vaccines, the World Health Organization currently supports flexible homologous and heterologous vaccination schedules. For countries considering a heterologous vaccination program, it is recommended to use a new crown vaccine with a different technical route from the first dose for subsequent doses of vaccination.

Shao Yiming introduced that there are two main purposes of using the new crown vaccine for sequential booster immunization: one is that different vaccines can complement each other’s advantages; There are more side effects. Vaccination using different technical routes can avoid side effects.

Wu Liangyou, deputy director of the National Health Commission’s Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention, said that research data show that both homologous booster immunization and sequential booster immunization can further improve the immune effect.

What are the requirements for sequential booster immunization?

Wang Huaqing introduced that there are four important conditions for the sequential booster immunization of the new crown vaccine:

First, the target of this sequential booster immunization is people over 18 years old.

Secondly, the inoculated object must meet the conditions of having completed 2 doses of inactivated vaccine, and the 2 doses of inoculation are Sinopharm Zhongsheng Beijing Company, Beijing Kexing Company, Sinopharm Zhongsheng Wuhan Company of inactivated coronavirus vaccine.

Third, 2 doses of inactivated vaccine should be completed throughout the whole process, and the interval between vaccinations should not be shorter than 6 months.

Fourth, the vaccinated subjects have not received booster immunization, that is, they have not received the third injection.

Inoculation of new crown inactivated vaccine from different manufacturers

Is it a sequential booster immunization?

Wang Huaqing said that vaccines with the same technical route, but with different manufacturers, do not belong to sequential immunization.

For example, the first two vaccinations were inactivated vaccines from one manufacturer, and the third was inactivated vaccines from another manufacturer. These are vaccines with the same technical route and are not part of sequential booster immunization. .

Sequential immunization is not required for the third injection.

Wang Huaqing introduced that groups who have completed the booster immunization before the start of the sequential booster immunization, according to the current regulations, do not need to follow up. Followed by sequential booster immunizations.

If two doses of the new crown inactivated vaccine were given in the early stage, and the third dose of the new crown inactivated vaccine was given at an interval of more than 6 months, there is no need to use sequential immunization for boosting. If you have received two doses of the new crown inactivated vaccine in the early stage, and you are going to receive the third dose, you can choose vaccines with different technical routes for sequential booster immunization, or you can choose inactivated vaccines with the same technical route for booster immunization.
