Since April, new life has been born in the closed loop of Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center almost every day, which has greatly boosted the morale of front-line medical staff. Yesterday, 8 healthy babies were born in the new crown ward of the public health center, and the safe birth of a pair of twins made the whole ward feel very happy.

Ms. Zhao, a pregnant woman, was admitted to the hospital as a new crown infection on April 13 and was expecting to give birth. At that time, she was 37 weeks pregnant and belonged to an elderly mother. After being admitted to the hospital, after relevant examinations and expert consultation, Ms. Zhao was not only diagnosed with new coronary pneumonia with mild obesity, but also found that she was pregnant with twins. Since obesity is a high-risk factor for patients with the new crown, twins also lead to the increase of various uncertain factors. After consultation and analysis by obstetric experts, it is considered that the fetus is full-term, in order to prevent the aggravation of the new crown. After full communication with Ms. Zhao, it was decided to implement a cesarean section.

On the afternoon of April 15, after completing various preoperative examinations and preparations, Ms. Zhao was pushed into the negative pressure operating room for a cesarean section. At 16:23, a baby boy weighing 3115 grams fell to the ground. Then, at 16:28, a baby girl weighing 2,705 grams also made a loud cry. With the joint efforts of medical staff, Ms. Zhao “happy to mention” a pair of twins. Both newborns scored 10 points, and nucleic acid tests were negative. After the baby was born, Ms. Zhao returned to the isolation ward to continue treatment. The medical staff will continue to monitor and take care of the newborn’s indicators.

Ms. Zhao said that when she learned that she was infected with the new crown, she was very worried about the safety of her baby. Thanks to the patient comfort and guidance of the medical staff, she could always maintain a happy mood before giving birth. . Seeing that the two babies were very healthy at the scene, Ms. Zhao said that they must cooperate with the treatment and strive to be discharged from the hospital as soon as possible to reunite the children.

As of 8:00 a.m. on April 16, Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, as the designated hospital for the treatment of COVID-19, has treated a total of 462 pregnant women and 58 were born within the closed loop. Newborns are affectionately called “the cradle of the epidemic” by the majority of pregnant and lying-in women. Behind this, the multi-department and multi-disciplinary coordination and cooperation of the Public Health Center is inseparable, and it also shows the full planning process and decisive treatment measures.
