On the first day of Puxi’s lockdown, he came to change the gauze for the old man, and the 89-year-old man regained his sight after surgery!

“How many fingers are these?”

“3”.

Today (1st), the first day of Puxi’s lockdown, at 9:00 a.m., at Granny Cao’s house on the sixth floor of an alley on Fenxi Road, Jing’an District, when Chen Jili, director of the Department of Ophthalmology of Shibei Hospital, unmasked him. After the gauze on Grandma’s eyes, the old man blinked, counted his fingers, and exclaimed with joy like a child: “I see! I can see again…”

The 89-year-old Grandma Cao suffers from both eyes. Cataracts for many years and she is almost blind in both eyes. She can only walk at home touching the walls and furniture, which brings a lot of inconvenience to her daily life, but she has always been afraid of eye surgery. At the beginning of March, the old man began to suffer from eye pain, headache, nausea and vomiting. The pain caused restlessness during the attack, which seriously affected his life. She went to a tertiary hospital for treatment and was diagnosed with an acute angle-closure glaucoma attack induced by cataract expansion and had to undergo surgery. However, due to the impact of the epidemic, the hospital is closed and managed and cannot operate.

Grandma Cao, who was in unbearable pain, was referred to the Ophthalmology Department of Shibei Hospital. Director Chen Jili decided to perform emergency surgery immediately. The operation relieved Grandma’s pain. After more than a week of treatment, the condition of her right eye was basically stable. At this time, Chen Jili found out that Grandma Cao had a sign of glaucoma in her left eye. In order to disarm this time bomb, on March 31, he successfully performed cataract extraction for Grandma Cao, and implanted an intraocular lens at the same time, eliminating the triggering factors of her glaucoma attack once and for all, allowing Grandma Cao to see again.

The surgery is done, but Puxi will be closed from April 1st, and Granny Cao is worried that she will not be able to return to see her doctor, change the dressing, and remove the gauze after the closure. Knowing that the old man was worried, Chen Jili took the initiative to make an agreement with the old man that he would come to the door on April 1 to change the dressing and remove the gauze for her.

In the early morning, Chen Jili arrived as scheduled to change the dressing and remove the gauze for the inspection. When the gauze was removed, Grandma Cao saw Dr. Chen who was standing in front of her and performed the operation for her. The old man put his hands together and thanked him continuously.

At present, the operation is very successful and my grandma’s vision has returned to 0.5.

According to reports, since the outbreak of the epidemic, the number of inpatient surgeries in the Ophthalmology Department of Shibei Hospital in March has more than doubled compared with the same period last year. Young and old people, if they do not undergo timely surgery, it will have an even greater impact on their lives during the lockdown period.

“I can’t see my right eye suddenly!” A few days ago, Granny Pan, who lives in Gu Village, Baoshan, came to ask for help. It turned out that she had been blind in her right eye for almost a month due to diabetes. She had made an appointment to be hospitalized in another hospital for surgery, but when the hospital was closed and controlled and unable to operate, she hurried to Shibei Hospital. While comforting Granny Pan, the doctor made a detailed examination and evaluation for her. Although Pan’s condition is not an emergency operation, it is also very critical. After full preparations, the doctor performed an operation on Pan’s right eye to save part of her vision. She also performed an intraocular injection of medicine in her left eye, which reduced the risk of eye hemorrhage and improved her left eye vision. Just before the closure, Granny Pan responded: “Now I can see it with both eyes, so I don’t have to worry about the closure at home.”
