Original title: Unswervingly innovating and educating newcomers through words and deeds – remembering the team of teachers of the Department of Cardiology, Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University

The heart used to be the most difficult restricted area for a scalpel to reach, and it is in every square inch” Threading the needle and leading the line”, there is no room for mistakes. The Cardiology Department of Zhongshan Hospital’s team of teachers is cracking the code of life with innovation in the space of the heart. Physicians are also teachers. On the three-foot podium in the classroom, they also use words and deeds to nurture rising stars.

A few days ago, the Ministry of Education announced the results of the second batch of “National University Huang Danian-style Teacher Teams”, and the team of Cardiology Department of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University was among them.

In 1999, the leader of the team, Ge Junbo, with a sincere heart, actively responded to the call of the state, gave up the preferential treatment, resigned from the job of the director of the intravascular ultrasound room of the University of Essen in Germany, and returned to the Department of Cardiology of Zhongshan Hospital. . Under the leadership of Ge Junbo, the team has achieved a series of breakthrough results in the fields of intravascular ultrasound research, new coronary stent research and development, and in-stent restenosis prevention and treatment, and has made outstanding contributions to enhancing the international academic status of my country’s cardiovascular disease field.

Ge Junbo first proposed a quantitative index for the diagnosis of vulnerable plaques by intravascular ultrasound, which has become an important marker for the identification of the nature of atherosclerotic plaques. The “fingertip phenomenon” has increased the detection rate of myocardial bridges from 0.5∼2.5% of coronary angiography to more than 95%, and won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2006. The team developed the world’s first biodegradable coated new coronary stent, which significantly reduces the incidence of thrombosis in traditional stents. This new stent has been applied in more than 900 medical institutions across the country and exported to more than ten countries. It was rated as one of the two outstanding research achievements in the field of new materials under the “863 Program”, and won the second prize of the 2011 National Technology Invention Award. The team successfully developed my country’s first fully degradable coronary stent “Xinsorb”, which led the fourth revolution of coronary intervention in my country.

In 2005, the world’s first “retrograde guide wire technology and its capture technology”; in 2010, the first domestic percutaneous aortic valve implantation was performed; In 2013, the first percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation was performed in China; in 2014, the first domestic percutaneous left atrial appendage closure was completed; in 2015, the world’s first cryoablation to remove the kidney was completed Arterial sympathetic nerve surgery; in 2018, the world’s first transapical mitral valve clipping was completed; in 2021, the first domestic robotic-assisted coronary intervention was completed… In terms of technological innovation, Ge Junbo also led team members to achieve multiple An industry first.

In order to promote the overall progress of medical innovation in China, in 2015, Ge Junbo and his team led the establishment of the country’s first innovation group with doctors as the main body – China Cardiovascular Doctors Innovation Club (CCI). At present, the innovation incubation platform has become one of the most influential doctor innovation platforms in China, which has promoted the independent innovation process of cardiovascular medical devices in my country.

Ge Junbo also passed on the idea of insisting on innovation to his students. He attaches great importance to originality and often warns students, “When you go out to give lectures, try to talk about our original things, use our own materials, and ask for Carry out basic and clinical research with scientific issues in clinical practice, and some foreign research conclusions should be critically accepted.”

“Medicine is based on benevolence, and virtue is based on medicine.” This is what Ge Junbo often said when teaching students. Although he has multiple jobs and complicated affairs, Ge Junbo still personally demonstrates the basic operations of coronary interventional surgery in the catheterization laboratory every month to the graduate students who come to study, and patiently explains the surgical ideas and key points. For the questions raised by the students, Ge Junbo will answer them in detail. He did not forget to instruct the graduate students to lay a solid foundation, sum up experience in continuous practice, constantly discover and think about problems, and organically combine clinical experience with basic scientific research methods to solve problems.

When teaching students, Ge Junbo often emphasized talking and communicating with the family members of the patients. From the perspective of the patient, choose the most conducive to the recovery of the patient’s heart function and the improvement of the quality of life according to the patient’s own condition and the condition of the diseased blood vessel. treatment options and surgical instruments.

“The closer you get to know him, the more you can feel the brilliance of Mr. Ge’s sincere and sincere character.” Some students commented on Ge Junbo. In Ge Junbo’s view, teachers not only influence students in the academic field, but also influence students in terms of moral quality. “In the eyes of students, a teacher is a model.” Just as Ge Junbo’s mentor, Academician Chen Haozhu, has had a profound impact on him in his professional knowledge, scientific research thinking and personality charm, now he is also striving to continue the inheritance of the teacher’s way.

“Before students join my team, I will provide them with 1-2 research directions. I will not frame them too much, so that they have a broader space for development. But the students’ For some scientific research ideas, I want to listen to the report, and give some corrections to their ideas, and then implement them.” Ge Junbo said that he tried his best to teach students according to their aptitude, time and application. .
