(Fighting against New Coronary Pneumonia) Disease Control Expert: Newly discovered infections in Jilin Province will still be mainly mild or asymptomatic

China News Service, Changchun, March 16th (Guo Jiasun, Boyan, Tan Weiqi) Zhao Qinglong, director of the Emergency Office of the Jilin Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, introduced in Changchun on the 16th that most people infected with the new coronavirus in Jilin Province are mild or asymptomatic. Due to the characteristics of the Chronovirus strain, most of the newly discovered infections will be mild or asymptomatic.

On the same day, the Jilin Provincial Government Information Office held a press conference on the epidemic prevention and control work in Jilin Province to introduce the relevant situation.

Zhao Qinglong introduced that the existing evidence shows that the Omicron strain is stronger than the Delta strain, and its pathogenicity is weakened. After infection, fever, dry cough, and fatigue are the main manifestations. Some patients may present with nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, hyposmia or loss of sense of smell and taste, conjunctivitis, myalgia and diarrhea.

Zhao Qinglong introduced that mild patients may show low fever, mild fatigue, smell and taste disorders, etc., without pneumonia, and may have no obvious clinical symptoms after infection with the new coronavirus. Most of the patients who have been vaccinated and infected with the Omicron strain are asymptomatic and mild.

Zhao Qinglong introduced that the symptoms of children’s cases are relatively mild, and the symptoms of some children and neonates may be atypical, only showing gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea, or only poor response and shortness of breath.

Gao Peng, chief physician of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of the Second Hospital of Jilin University, said that the Omicron virus has many characteristics. The first characteristic is that it is highly infectious and spreads quickly. Simple contact can spread it. Therefore, we must strengthen protection, wear masks, go out less, and follow orders.

According to Gao Peng, the current treatment for light patients is mainly based on centralized isolation management. Ordinary, severe, and critically ill patients are given centralized treatment in designated hospitals. Among them, severe and critical patients are admitted to the ICU for treatment as soon as possible. All patients were closely monitored for vital signs and routine biochemical tests were performed when necessary. Drugs are mainly integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, improve the patient’s immunity. (End)
