On March 3, local time, the Fiji Ministry of Health announced that seasonal infectious diseases such as leptospirosis, dengue fever and typhoid fever broke out in many regions of the country , 23 people have died of leptospirosis, thousands of people have been infected with these diseases, and the proportion of children diagnosed has increased.
Fiji’s Ministry of Health said 567 cases of leptospirosis, 633 cases of dengue fever and 44 cases of typhoid fever have been diagnosed this year. Some 70% of the intensive care units at the Western Regional Hospital are leptospirosis patients. About 10 percent of patients relapse after recovery, with more severe symptoms.
Fiji’s Ministry of Health urges people to seek medical attention as soon as possible if they feel unwell, and to maintain personal hygiene and clean food and water sources.
