There is a yellow “flesh” in the eye, beware of prolapse of orbital fat

Recently, the Department of Ophthalmology of our hospital successfully performed resection + orbital septum repair for an elderly patient with orbital fat prolapse.

Patient Mr. Zhang accidentally discovered a new creature in his left eye three years ago. With the passage of time, the new creature in the left eye became bigger and bigger, and I felt a foreign body sensation in the right eye, so I came to our hospital for treatment.

Physical examination after admission, a pale yellow new creature was seen in the lateral canthus of the left eye, which grew out of the outer and upper fornix, with a soft texture of about 0.6 *0.8mm size, no tenderness, normal vision, corneal penetration, slightly higher crystal density, normal fundus. The orbital MR examination in the outpatient department showed no abnormality; the initial diagnosis was considered to be “intraorbital fat prolapse”, so the patient was recommended for surgical treatment.

postoperative

The bulbar conjunctiva on the tumor surface was preserved during the operation, the prolapsed tissue was excised, the orbital septum was repaired, and the bulbar conjunctiva was repaired. The postoperative results were satisfactory.

The fat in the orbit will not come off the outside of the eye due to the obstruction of the orbital septum, but if the orbital septum is caused by trauma or tumor or other reasons If it is damaged, it will cause the intraorbital fat to prolapse outside the eye. If there is a lot of prolapsed fat, it will affect the shape of the eyelid. Some patients will have a foreign body sensation, so surgical resection should be considered. The tissue comes out again.
