At 13:00 on August 10, the water level of Poyang Lake Hukou Station dropped to 10.93 meters. Since the warning water level was withdrawn on June 27, the water level of Poyang Lake has dropped by more than 8 meters for more than 40 days.

When Poyang Lake entered the mouth of the Yangtze River, yellow tidal flats began to appear on the wide lake in the past, and the waterway became narrow. At present, the Tongjiang water body in the Poyang Lake area is 1,090 square kilometers, a decrease of 1,500 square kilometers compared with the same period last year, with a volume of 2.22 billion cubic meters, a decrease of 5.3 billion cubic meters compared with the same period last year.

According to the Jiujiang City Drought Weekly Report, from August 1st to 7th, the rainfall in Jiujiang City was 80% less than the average of the same period of the year, and the evaporation was nearly 5 times higher than the rainfall; the water level of Poyang Lake entered the dry season on August 6th, which is 1951 was the earliest year on record to enter the dry season. At present, the city’s 12 drinking water sources in cities above the county level can maintain normal water intake, and there is no difficulty in taking water from key industrial water intakes.

According to the analysis of the meteorological department, although autumn has already begun, the average temperature in the province in August is expected to be 28.5 to 29.5 ℃, which is 0.5 to 1.5 ℃ higher than previous years. The extreme maximum temperature in the whole province can still reach 37-39 ℃, and local 40 ℃. The province’s average precipitation will also be less than 1-20%, of which some areas in northern Jiangxi will be less than 2-40%; the meteorological drought in some areas will be further intensified.
