Many people may have had this feeling: when you go to sleep at night, it is obviously not hot, but you wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning sweating, and you don’t sweat when you wake up. This situation is often referred to as night sweats. Is it normal to sweat a lot? How to deal with night sweats?

Attention should be paid to sweating on the head and back

Normal sweating is the body’s thermoregulation, especially in hot summer or after a lot of exercise. Qin Xiaoyan, director of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation of the Third Hospital of Zhengzhou City, introduced that the following parts often sweat but may be a problem with the body-

Head sweating: invasion of external evils. The head is the meeting of all the yang, and the yang should be the most abundant. The invasion of exogenous pathogens and the stasis of yang qi often lead to abnormal sweating of the head. It is recommended to avoid wind, cold and heat on a daily basis to prevent the invasion of external pathogens.

Forehead sweating: hyperactivity of liver yang. Frequent sweating on the forehead may be caused by hyperactivity of liver yang. Usually try to maintain a calm state of mind, to ensure adequate sleep. You can brew wolfberry tea and chrysanthemum tea every day to calm the liver.

The nose is sweaty: Lung Qi is insufficient. The nose always sweats, indicating that the lung qi is deficient. Such people will also have symptoms such as shortness of breath, shortness of breath, and easy to catch a cold. It is recommended to press and rub the Yingxiang points on both sides of the nose with fingers every day, which has the effect of clearing the nose and preventing colds.

Sweaty palms and feet: Yin deficiency. Frequent sweating on the palms and soles of the feet is a manifestation of spleen dysfunction, middle energizer spleen dampness or yin deficiency and fire. In addition, if you have symptoms such as soreness and weakness of the waist and knees, upset and insomnia, you can eat some lily, lotus seeds, etc. to clear the mind and soothe the nerves.

Excessive sweating in the chest: Disharmony of the spleen and stomach. People with discordant spleen and stomach have bloating, vomiting, bad breath, constipation, and even chronic gastroenteritis. It is recommended to eat less greasy, raw and cold food, and drink more jujube soaked in water; for proper exercise, you can choose jogging, Taijiquan, Baduanjin, etc.

Sweating on the back: lack of yang energy. The Yang Meridian is mostly on the back, and the Governor Vessel is the sea of yang, which is also on the back. A lot of sweating on the back indicates that the yang qi is not solid and yang qi is deficient. Usually, you can sunbathe your back more, and often take a walk in the sun; ensure adequate sleep, and have a rich diet, focusing on nourishing yin and yang.

Qin Xiaoyan reminded that in summer, the temperature is high, the humidity is high, and it is easy to sweat. Usually, you should pay attention to whether the sweating is accompanied by other discomfort. If the sweating is caused by organic diseases, you should seek medical attention in time. Treat as prescribed.

How to deal with night sweats?

A typical symptom of night sweats is the constant perspiration when you fall asleep and stop when you wake up. Qin Xiaoyan introduced that night sweats can be divided into 3 types according to the severity of symptoms:

Light. Sweating during sleep or 2 hours before waking up, with less sweating and no other discomfort.

Medium. Sweat for a few minutes or hours after falling asleep, stop sweating after waking up, no sweating after falling asleep again, feel hot, dry mouth after waking up.

Heavy. Sweating immediately after falling asleep or closing eyes, sweating profusely, and still profuse sweating when waking up and falling asleep, accompanied by low-grade fever, weight loss, hot flashes, and decreased urination.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that night sweats are mostly caused by yin deficiency and fire, which forces the body fluid to leak out. For light or moderate night sweats, it is recommended to start from the following three aspects for daily physical conditioning:

In terms of daily diet, people with yin deficiency or blood heat should abstain from spicy and hot food, and do not drink alcohol. It is suitable to nourish yin and reduce fire, and eat more fresh vegetables that nourish yin and clear heat, such as radish and lotus root.

In terms of living environment, pay attention to adjusting the temperature of the living environment. For example, the living environment of people with yin deficiency and blood heat should be slightly cooler, and at the same time, keep the living environment dry. Quilts, pajamas, etc. should be removed, washed, and dried frequently to keep them dry. Take a bath frequently to reduce the skin irritation from sweat.

In terms of living habits, pay attention to shelter from the wind. After sweating a lot, you should avoid direct blowing, and dry the sweat or change clothes in time. In particular, be careful not to blow air at the air outlet of the air conditioner. Also, don’t let the wind blow when you sleep with the window open at night. After sweating, take a shower. After sweating, the pores of the body open, and the blood is in a state of high-speed circulation. Taking a shower immediately will cause damage to the body and skin. At the same time, hot water increases blood flow, which may cause the body to lack oxygen.
