A new ‘monkey virus’ may spill over to humans

A little-known family of viruses has become endemic in wild African primates and has been found in some monkeys, according to a new study published Sept. 30 in the journal Cell. Caused deadly Ebola-like symptoms, it was ‘ready to spill’ to humans.

“This animal virus has found a way to invade human cells, reproduce itself and evade the body’s immune mechanisms. This is very rare,” the researchers said.

This study shows that a molecule or receptor called CD163 plays a key role in the biology of simian arteritis virus, allowing the virus to invade target cells. Through a series of experiments, the researchers found that the virus is also very good at “grabbing” the human version of CD163, entering human cells, and rapidly replicating itself.

Researchers stress that another pandemic is not imminent and the public need not panic. But they recommend that the global health community prioritize further research on simian arterioviruses, develop blood antibody tests for them, and consider monitoring people who have been in close contact with animal carriers.

Nurse’s prescribing rights to West China Hospital

According to “China Youth Daily”, West China Hospital of Sichuan University recently passed a resolution on launching the pilot work of medical-nursing agreement prescription, which means that the right of nurses to prescribe is implemented in the hospital.

The “Administrative Measures for Prescriptions of the People’s Republic of China” stipulates that a registered licensed physician obtains the corresponding prescription right at the place of practice. But nurses were not given prescribing authority. In some diagnosis and treatment links, because nurses do not have the right to prescribe, patients need to be referred to other doctors to issue prescriptions. This process may affect the timeliness of patient diagnosis and treatment.

For this reason, based on the advanced practice nurse (APN) project, West China Hospital took the lead in exploring the feasibility and rationality of nurses’ prescription rights. APN is a group of nurses with deep specialist knowledge, decision-making ability for complex problems, and ability to expand clinical practice.

Wu Hong, vice president of West China Hospital, said that the prescribing power of nurses is not only “power” for nurses, but more “responsibility” behind it, “This will break the traditional concept of hospital management and make It is not an easy task.” (China Youth Daily)

For the illegal acts of Dai Mouyu and Pan Mou’an, administrative penalties will be imposed after the isolation of the two people.

Of the 6 patients with myocardial infarction seen by doctors,

5 smokers

On September 30, CCTV4 reported that statistics show that there are about 500,000 sudden deaths in China every year, most of which are sudden cardiac deaths, of which about 75,000 are young people.

Dr. Qian Xiaodong, Department of Cardiology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, said that he had experienced such a weekend and performed 6 acute myocardial infarction operations within 24 hours, of which 5 patients were aged 40 years old and under, and all have a common hobby – smoking.

Studies have shown that persistent smoking is a major risk factor for poor clinical outcomes in patients with recurrent myocardial infarction. Most smokers have a higher risk of death from cardiovascular disease than lung cancer, and their cardiovascular disease may lead to sudden death at the onset of the disease. (CCTV)
