Beware! There will be heat stroke without exposure to the sun, experts remind: pay attention to prevent heat stroke in high humidity weather

Recently, the emergency department of Peking University People’s Hospital has successively treated heatstroke patients, two of which have reached the most severe stage of heatstroke—heat stroke. After all-out rescue, one patient has recovered, and the other is not out of danger.

The dog days are the hottest, humid and muggy times of the year. After “falling into a volt”, many parts of the country entered a continuous high temperature mode. In recent days, the highest temperature in most parts of Beijing has reached about 35 degrees Celsius. The Municipal Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a high temperature yellow warning signal on August 5, indicating that the relative humidity is high and the body feels sultry, so pay attention to precautions.

Case 1: Sanitation workers were pulled out at the entrance of the hospital

56-year-old Master Wang is a sanitation worker responsible for the environmental sanitation of Zhanzhan Road. This week his working hours are concentrated from 5:00 to 11:00 and 14:00 to 16:00.

At about 8 o’clock on the 3rd, Master Wang, who was riding a small yellow car, came to a slow stop near the north gate of the People’s Hospital. After a few minutes, he became unstable and suddenly fell to the left. , “hanging” on the guardrail and twitching all over.

Dong Guiying, deputy chief physician of the emergency department of the People’s Hospital, happened to pass by and hurried to check the patient’s vital signs. “At that time, he had breathing and heartbeat, lost consciousness, and his skin temperature was very high. When I touched him with my hand, it was a burning feeling.” Borrowing years of treatment experience, Dong Guiying immediately judged that he had heat stroke. . The doctor immediately called the emergency room, and at the same time unbuttoned his clothes and put the iced mineral water in his hand on the aorta of the neck to cool down.

After receiving the call, Wang Qiu, the head nurse in the rescue area of the emergency department, immediately rushed to the accident site with the doctor on duty and three nurses. Several people worked together to lift the “big” comatose Master Wang onto the flat car and rushed to the emergency room. At this time, Master Wang’s body temperature showed 42 degrees Celsius, his breathing was fast, and his heartbeat reached 130 beats per minute.

Rapid cooling is a crucial treatment measure to compete with heat stroke. If the core temperature of the patient can be lowered to below 40 degrees Celsius within half an hour, and electrolytes are replenished to correct the electrolyte, it is possible to avoid damage to the brain nerves as much as possible. damage, greatly improving the survival rate and prognosis of patients. One hour after the treatment, the patient’s body temperature dropped to 39. degrees Celsius, and then the body temperature continued to drop.

After 8 hours of first aid, Master Wang was awake and his body temperature dropped to 37.5℃. After 48 hours, he was back to normal and was discharged home. He lost his memory of the process before and after he fainted at the hospital entrance. His colleagues and family are all fortunate. “Fortunately, the disease occurred near the hospital, and it was discovered and treated as soon as possible. If the disease is delayed, I will be afraid when I think about it.”

Case 2: The elderly in their seventies are not enough. He also fell ill when he went out of the house

At 0:00 on the 4th, an ambulance rushed to the People’s Hospital, and a 74-year-old man was sent to the emergency room.

At this time, the old man was unconscious, the bilateral pupils were sluggish to light reflex, and there was no response to pressing the orbit (orbital compression reflex), body temperature was 40.5 degrees Celsius, little sweat, high blood pressure, pulse 170 times per minute, double The skin below the side calf appears mottled, and the hands and feet are cold.

The elderly have suffered from high blood pressure and high blood lipids for many years. Even in the hot summer, they never use air conditioners. It has been three days since the abnormal situation occurred this time. The old man who used to be able to take care of himself has shown signs of fatigue, burnout, anxiety, irritability, reluctance to talk, reluctance to eat, and love to sleep. Two days ago, the situation of urinary incontinence and inability to wake up occurred, and my wife realized that something was wrong.

Further examination revealed that the elderly had rhabdomyolysis, liver damage, abnormal blood coagulation and other organ failures. “After a night of treatment, although the body temperature has dropped, the patient has suffered from heat stroke for too long and has developed multiple organ failure.” Yu Jianbo, deputy chief physician of the emergency department, said that the patient has been transferred to the intensive care unit and undergoes blood purification. and other means to continue treatment. After a day and night of rescue, the old man is now awake, but his condition is still critical.

Experts remind: heat stroke is not an outdoor “patent”

Experts from People’s Hospital introduce that heat stroke usually occurs in high temperature and humid weather in summer. Because in the case of high temperature, the human body mainly relies on sweating and evaporation of water to dissipate heat, and in the state of high humidity, the heat cannot be dissipated in time.

Master Wang, who works outdoors all year round, belongs to labor-type heat stroke. Expert Tip: For manual workers, pay attention to the weather forecast, and try to avoid staying outdoors for a long time when encountering high temperature and high humidity. Special types of work such as sanitation should replenish water in time while doing outdoor protection. Once symptoms such as fever, dizziness, nausea, rapid breathing and heartbeat occur, they should suspend work and rest in a cool place. If symptoms do not improve and worsen, seek medical attention in time, or call 120 for emergency services.

There is a common misconception among the public that heat stroke does not occur indoors. In fact, there is a type of non-exertional heat stroke, which is common in the young, pregnant women, and the elderly and infirm. This group of people often suffer from dry, hot and sweaty skin due to imperfect or decreased central body temperature regulation function, resulting in dysfunction of heat dissipation. In high temperature days, the room is sultry and the ventilation is insufficient. It is difficult to achieve the cooling effect only with fans. In addition, the elderly are often accompanied by several basic diseases. Therefore, in clinical practice, it is not uncommon for the elderly to suffer from heat stroke.

Experts suggest:

In hot and humid weather, you can turn on the air conditioner properly, set the temperature at around 26 degrees Celsius, and adjust the dehumidification function to increase comfort, and avoid the elderly’s bedroom. Don’t blow straight.
